    Die Unterscheidung zwischen der Politik und dem Politischen ist eine, wenn nicht die Leitdifferenz zeitgenössischer Sozialphilosophie. Verweist der Begriff der Politik auf die institutionelle Ordnung, die staatliche Verwaltung des Gemeinwesens, so betont der Begriff des Politischen die unhintergehbaren Momente des Dissenses und Widerstreits, des Ereignisses und der Unterbrechung. Das breite Spektrum an Theorieansätzen, die von dieser Unterscheidung ausgehen, gehört zum Kernbestand der Lehre in den Bachelor- und Master-Studiengängen der Politikwissenschaft, der Philosophie und der Soziologie, insbesondere in den Modulen zur Politischen Theorie, zur Politischen Philosophie und zur Soziologischen Theorie. Der Band enthält einführende Überblicksdarstellungen zu den wichtigsten Theoretikern des politischen Denkens der Gegenwart, u.a. zu Rancière, Nancy, Badiou, Laclau/Mouffe, Latour und Derrida, und lässt sich ebenso als umfassendes Nachschlagewerk wie als Einführung zu einzelnen Autoren verwenden

    History has shown us that the power of political speech can be put to both positive and manipulative ends - while rhetoric is a powerful tool for those who seek to persuade others to adopt their views, it can also be employed to foment factionalism and undermine the very basis of a democratic society. In this unique study, Marc Hanvelt shows how eighteenth-century philosopher David Hume confronted questions about the negative moral and political effects of rhetoric, and how he differentiated between manipulative and non-manipulative political speech.Drawing on Hume's philosophical, historical, and popular writings, The Politics of Eloquence presents an understanding of rhetoric that can be properly ascribed to this important thinker, an understanding hitherto overlooked in the scholarly literature.     What should the servant to prince in the 17th century read? This question was of interest to scholars as well as princely servant themselves, such as the privy counsellor and envoy Friedrich Rudolf von Canitz (1654-1699). The aim of this study is to disclose the intellectual currents contained in his library. This is accomplished not only through traditional library analysis, but also, for the first time, through canon research Wie die politische Lektüre des angehenden oder schon aktiven Fürstendieners auszusehen hat, beschäftigte im 17. Jahrhundert nicht nur Gelehrte, sondern auch aktive Fürstendiener, wie den Geheimen Rat und Gesandten Friedrich Rudolf von Canitz. Seine über 2000 Werke umfassende Bibliothek setzt sich zur Hälfte aus politisch-historischen Themen zusammen. Ziel dieser Studie ist es, die in der Bibliothek verborgenen ideellen Strömungen zu decodieren. Dies geschieht nicht durch eine klassische Bibliotheksanalyse, sondern erstmals mithilfe der Kanonforschung: Welche Deutungszusammenhänge bestehen zwischen einzelnen Titeln? Wie sind spezifische Quantitäten zu bewerten? Nur der Abgleich mit zeitgenössischen Lektürekanones kann diese Fragen beantworten. Die Gegenüberstellung der Bibliothek von Canitz mit vier politischen Leseanweisungen wird aufzeigen, welche Ideen und Konzepte im Bestand in welchem Ausmaß repräsentiert und miteinander kombiniert sind
