    Despite their rich tradition, the Carmina Anacreontea transmitted in the Palatine Anthology have received little scholarly attention. This neglect is linked to questions concerning their authenticity. Long read as poems by the ancient lyricist Anacreon, they are now regarded instead as imitations of Anacreontic lyricism. This volume presents the latest findings on the language, poetology, tradition, and reception of this lyrical collection.

    Vorgestellt werden zwei unkonventionelle Beispiele neuerer Literatur, bei denen die Gestalt des Buchs, seine Materialität und Architektur, als konstitutive Dimensionen des literarischen Werks selbst zu gelten haben: Anne Carsons Leporello-Buch "Nox" und Judith Schalanskys "Verzeichnis einiger Verluste". Carsons wie auch Schalanskys Buch entstanden als Dokumente des Erinnerns und nehmen Bezug auf Abwesendes bzw. Abwesende: Carson gestaltete "Nox" als Memorialbuch für ihren verstorbenen Bruder; es enthält Fetzen persönlicher Erinnerungsstücke sowie fragmentarische Notizen. Schalanskys „Verzeichnis einiger Verluste“ bietet eine Zusammenstellung von Essays, Sachinformationen und Photos, die sich auf zwölf verschwundene Objekte, Orte, Kunstwerke oder natürliche Wesen beziehen

    In diesem grundlegenden Werk geht es um die Darstellung und Interpretation einer Kulturgeschichte der Literatur im Spannungsfeld von buchstäblichem Verstehen und symbolischer Deutung. Ausgangspunkt einer kritischen Diskussion philosophischer und literaturtheoretischer Positionen ist eine Reflexion über das Bild Offenes Buch von Paul Klee. Darauf aufbauend wird eine Poetik der Bedeutungsoffenheit entwickelt, die Philologie als eine Kulturgeschichte der Literatur versteht.     Ecocriticism and the Poiesis of Form: Holding on to Proteus demonstrates how a fractal imagination helps one hold the form of a poem within the reaches of Deep Time, and it explores the kinship between the hazy, liminal moment when Sound becomes Syllable and the hazy, liminal moment when the sage energy of the Atom made a leap toward the gaze of the first cell, to echo Merwin. Moe distills his methodology as follows: "My work?--I point," asserted the aphorism. "That's what I do." To point, the project integrates a wide range of interdisciplinary ideas--including biosemiotics, fractals, phi, trauma theory, the Mandelbrot Set, hyperobjects, meditative chants, Goethe's morphology, Ramanujan's summation, a spiderweb's sonic properties, and Thoreau's sense of the plant-like burgeoning force of an Atom--in order to open up multiple trajectories. In this context, the volume foregrounds the insights of poets/storytellers including Hillman, Snyder, Anzaldaua, EEC, okpik, Whitman, Dickinson, Gladding, Melville, Morrison, and Toomer, for they are most attentive to that liminal moment when the vibratory hum in language, and in the cosmos, turns kinetic. As this volume draws on a wide range of writers from many backgrounds, it allows the myriad voices to engage with one another across differences in race, gender, and ethnicity. These writers show us how, to echo Dickinson, the "Freight / Of a delivered Syllable - " can split and how the energy unleashed came from, and points us back toward, the energy (un)making the forms of Gaia. The starting point for discussing the energy of a poem can no longer begin with the human; rather, Holding on explores how the poem's energy is but a sliver of a hyperobject "massively distributed" throughout the cosmos--a sage energy that brings forth form

    Returning to the Greek understanding of art to rethink its capacities, 'Creation and the Function of Art' focuses on the relationship between techne and phusis (nature). Moving away from the theoretical Platonism which dominates contemporary understandings of art, this book instead reinvigorates Aristotelian causation. Beginning with the Greek topos and turning to insights from philosophy, pure mathematics, psychoanalysis and biology, Jason Tuckwell re-problematises techne in functional terms. This book examines the deviations at play within logical forms, the subject, and upon phusis to better situate the role of the function in poiesis (art). In so doing, Tuckwell argues that art concerns a genuinely creative labour that cannot be resolved via an ontological or epistemological problem, but which instead constitutes an encounter with the problematic. As such, techne is shown to be a property of the living, of intelligence coupled to action, that not only enacts poiesis or art, but indicates a broader role for creative deviation in nature

    In diesem grundlegenden Werk geht es um die Darstellung und Interpretation einer Kulturgeschichte der Literatur im Spannungsfeld von buchstäblichem Verstehen und symbolischer Deutung. Ausgangspunkt einer kritischen Diskussion philosophischer und literaturtheoretischer Positionen ist eine Reflexion über das Bild Offenes Buch von Paul Klee. Darauf aufbauend wird eine Poetik der Bedeutungsoffenheit entwickelt, die Philologie als eine Kulturgeschichte der Literatur versteht. An den Leitbegriffen von Poiesis (Philologie als Überlieferungsgeschichte), Katharsis (Philologie als Wirkungsgeschichte) und Aisthesis (Philologie als Deutungsgeschichte) wird das Modell PoiKAi generiert, mit dem sich eine Kulturgeschichte der Literatur schreiben lässt. Umfangreiche Register (Begriffe, Quellentitel, Namen) erschließen das Buch zusätzlich als Enzyklopädie.
