    Kaffeehaus und Labor, Lese- und Operationssaal scheinen zwei konträre Welten zu repräsentieren - und dennoch gibt es Grenzgänger, die den Diskurs der Medizin und der Literatur gleichzeitig in sich tragen. Gottfried Benn ist ein "dichtender Doktor", der die Heillosigkeit des Seins mit dem Skalpell skizziert und disparate Welten von Verklärung und Verwesung auf "medizynische" Weise verbindet. Der Band untersucht anhand der Morgue-Lyrik und der Rönne-Novellen die Diskurse um das Ärztliche, Krankheit und Morbidität, deren kritische Potentiale dem Leser wie blutige Wunden entgegenklaffen. Die Arztfigur Dr. Rönne, eine Autopathographie Benns, ist getrieben zwischen Erkenntnisgewinn und Persönlichkeitsverlust - doch die zerebrale Selbstsezierung in einer dissoziierten Wissenschaftswelt hält neben Abgründen auch ungeahnte Innerlichkeiten bereit: Sie öffnet mit der Hirnrinde gleichsam den Raum für dionysische Utopien des Südens und für das Rauschhafte. Verstand und Verlangen amalgamieren zu einer neuen fragmentarischen Form zwischen schizophrener Selbstauflösung und Sehnsüchten nach Umgrenzung.
