    Mit der Optimierung des Lehrens und Lernens durch Daten, Zahlen und Algorithmen nehmen die Nutzung digital erzeugter Daten oder automatisierte Auswertungsmethoden zu. Daten lassen sich nahezu beliebig miteinander verknüpfen und digitale Geräte, einzelne Plattformen und technische Ökosysteme befinden sich inzwischen im Dauerbetrieb. Scheinbare »Gewissheiten« und vermeintlich objektive(re) Rückmeldungen bestimmen so die pädagogische Praxis mit. Die Beitragenden des Bandes setzen sich kritisch mit (digitalen) Vermessungspraktiken in pädagogischen Kontexten und der allumfassenden Quantifizierung auseinander. Neben aktuellen Forschungsprojekten, die die dargelegten Ambivalenzen empirisch in den Blick nehmen, reflektieren darüber hinaus Forschende in Interviews die Erkenntnisse sowie eigene Erfahrungen für die Gegenwartsgesellschaft.

    The COVID-19 crisis has a severe impact on education and employment and exposed the many social inequities that make some populations more vulnerable to shocks. Despite a vast literature on social mobility in advanced economies, little is known about it in African countries, mainly due to data limitations. Using a large harmonized dataset of more than 72 million individuals, we fill this gap and examine socioeconomic status mobility across generations, measured by educational and occupational attainment. We uncover the substantial geographical variations in the degree of upward/downward educational and occupational mobility across and within African countries, and the gender and rural/urban divide. Additionally, we explore the determinants of social mobility in the African region. We find that social mobility on the continent could be partly explained by observable individual characteristics (gender, marital status, age, et cetera), and that educational mobility is a driver of occupational mobility. Lastly, we show that the quality of institutions, the level of public spending on education, social protection coverage, natural resource endowments, and countries' fragility are strong predictors of social mobility in Africa

    Inequality is bad per se and has adverse effects, among other things, on economic development and the environment. It is also often argued that high and increasing inequalities put societies under stress, which increases the likelihood of social conflicts. However, the literature on this topic is scarce and some of the conclusions are not adequately supported by empirical evidence. This is mainly because there are different definitions and measurements of social cohesion. Moreover, some definitions of social cohesion incorporate inequality, thus making it impossible to examine how these two phenomena interact with one another. This paper analyses both theoretically and empirically, the relationship between inequality and social cohesion. To do so, it employs a recent definition of social cohesion provided by Leininger et al. (2021). According to this definition, social cohesion is composed of three core attributes, namely trust, inclusive identity and cooperation for the common good. These attributes are examined in two dimensions, namely the horizontal (relationship among individuals) and vertical (relationship between individuals and state institutions) dimensions of social cohesion.     Mainstreaming the gender perspective in national statistical systems makes it possible to produce information that reflects the circumstances of women and men in all their diversity, and thus to shed light on inequalities in different aspects of life. The Regional Gender Agenda recognizes the need to design informed public policies based on this type of data, as outlined in the Montevideo Strategy for Implementation of the Regional Gender Agenda within the Sustainable Development Framework by 2030, pillar 9, “Information systems: transforming data into information, information into knowledge and knowledge in political decisions”.This document presents the current situation of statistical production with a gender perspective in Latin America and the Caribbean, the factors that have been key to making progress in this area and the remaining challenges. It was prepared within the framework of the systematic review of progress in the implementation of the Montevideo Strategy, with a focus on pillar 9, and is the outcome of the coordinated work of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean and the Statistical Conference of the Americas of Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
