Based on an exhibition organized by Joachim Pissarro and curator of contemporary art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Lauren Haynes, 'Crystals in Art: Ancient to Today' explores the complex and varied connections between crystal and art throughout the world. Included are both ancient artifacts-such as engraved gems, figurines, and vases-and works from contemporary artists around the world that explore the power of crystal in art by drawing on its form, properties, and mysterious qualities. Featuring more than sixty-five works from ancient Egypt and Greece, through to Rome, China, India, Japan, the Middle East, the Americas, and beyond, this book invites readers to discover how the power of crystal transcends the boundaries of time and space.Taken together, all of these objects illustrate how crystal has bridged the gap between things we can see and things we can't: science and art, fact and faith, medicine and magic-the visible and the invisible. Published in collaboration with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and University of Arkansas School of Art. Exhibition: Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, USA (12.10.2019-06.01.2020)

Years have passed since the Dark Crystal was healed and peace was restored to Thra. Though Jen and Kira have ruled as King and Queen, they have become distracted by power. The planet is sick and those on the surface of Thra are not the only ones affected. A mysterious race of creatures called Firelings live in a realm near the planet's core, hidden from the Gelfling and their kingdom. A young Fireling named Thurman is tasked with stealing a shard of the Crystal to restore power to her world. Along the way she'll befriend the young Gelfling Kensho, conjure the Skeksis and Mystics, and embark on one incredible adventure!

This book offers a fresh reading of Spenser's poetry in the light of his Protestantism. Previous critics have devoted much space to the poet's debt to the literature of antiquity and the Renaissance, as well as to his knowledge of Neoplatonism, mythograph, and iconography; but less has been written about the imaginative consequences for his poetry of his Protestantism, largely conditioned by the Elizabethan religious milieu. Dr Hume seeks to illuminate Spenser's major poems, The Shepheardes Calender and The Faerie Queene, by placing them in a relevant context of Elizabethan Protestant thought and writings. Her detailed analysis shows how words, images and episodes in both poems come into focus when the reader takes account of sermons, biblical commentaries, devotional treatises and controversial works of the Elizabethan decades
