    The book concentrates on video game translation from the perspective of cognitive semantics. One of its objectives is to assert that translators’ knowledge of cognitive semantics can affect translation, i.e. decoding the sender’s mental states and evoking particular mental states in the target language recipient. The work is interdisciplinary and draws on such fields as games studies, cognitive semantics, and translation studies. It also aspires to complete gaps in the scientific research on video games, systematize the knowledge of localization, and ascertain the role played by translators in the localization process. The research material consists of eight video games which belong to different genres, and the investigated English video game texts cover almost 3000 standard pages.

    Auf welche Weise stellen sprachliche Konstruktionen mentale Realitäten her? Welche kognitiven Prozesse und sprachlichen Konstruktionen unterstützen uns darin, das Leben und uns selbst kohärent zu halten? Was bedeutet »Konditionalität«? Dr. Muchas kognitionslinguistische Studie entwickelt in interdisziplinärer Diskussion ein pragmasemantisches Modell der (interaktionalen) Diskurskonstruktionen, das Prozesse der Selektion, Extension und Resonanz an die jeweilige Perspektive des (Sprecher-)Selbst und instanziierte Schemata rückbindet. In diesem Design nimmt die Studie (schematische) konditionale/binäre und pronominale Konstruktionen in den Blick und verknüpft sie mit der Konzeption des Selbst. Die Korpusanalysen sind einerseits diachron angelegt (17. bis 21. Jahrhundert), andererseits textsorten- und genreübergreifend (Dramen, Briefe, Erzählungen), so dass Zeiträume in schematisch-diskursgrammatischer Perspektive durchschritten und Literatur und Realität miteinander vernetzt werden. Kognitionswissenschaftliche und gesellschaftspolitische Überlegungen zu sowie literarische und nicht-literarische Konfigurationen von sexualisierter Gewalt und Trauma komplettieren die Untersuchung.

    The book presents an ethnolinguistic study on lexical expressions of honor in the Language of Early Arabic Poetry. It is the first application of Cultural-Linguistic methodology in research on the language and culture of al-Jahiliyya Arabs. Consequently, it is one of the first cultural cognitive linguistic studies on Classical Arabic semantics and lexicology. The book examines the use of Arabic honor-related lexis in the oral-formulaic pre-Islamic poetry, and interprets lexical expressions as encoding cultural conceptualizations: cognitive schemata and categories, and conceptual metaphors and metonymies. An exhaustive description of pre-Islamic Arabic cultural models of honor and social evaluation is offered alongside semantic frames for discourses of honor available to pre-Islamic Arabs.

    Este es un estudio monográfico sobre la semántica de la forma doxástica creo,en sus manifestaciones en el español oral de las últimas décadas. Realizaun análisis de su comportamiento en la conversación coloquial y el debateparlamentario. El objetivo principal de la investigación es describir la redpolisémica de valores semánticos de creo, como elemento de subjetividad. Setrata, por tanto, de un estudio semasiológico empírico, en el que se combinanlos acercamientos cualitativo y cuantitativo, y que pretende salvar algunosescollos que aún existen en torno a la definición de unidades de la lenguaque, si bien son complejas por la hibridez de su naturaleza proposicional ymodal, resultan altamente productivas en la comunicación.

    How do we read stories? How do they engage our minds and create meaning? Are they a mental construct, a linguistic one or a cultural one? What is the difference between real stories and fictional ones? This book addresses such questions by describing the conceptual and linguistic underpinnings of narrative interpretation. Barbara Dancygier discusses literary texts as linguistic artifacts, describing the processes which drive the emergence of literary meaning. If a text means something to someone, she argues, there have to be linguistic phenomena that make it possible. Drawing on blending theory and construction grammar, the book focuses its linguistic lens on the concepts of the narrator and the story, and defines narrative viewpoint in a new way. The examples come from a wide spectrum of texts, primarily novels and drama, by authors such as William Shakespeare, Margaret Atwood, Philip Roth, Dave Eggers, Jan Potocki and Mikhail Bulgakov.

Dr. Muchas kognitionslinguistische Studie entwickelt in interdisziplinärer Diskussion ein pragmasemantisches Modell der (interaktionalen) Diskurskonstruktionen, das Prozesse der Selektion, Extension und Resonanz an die jeweilige Perspektive des (Sprecher-)Selbst und instanziierte Schemata rückbindet. In diesem Design nimmt die Studie (schematische) konditionale/binäre und pronominale Konstruktionen in den Blick und verknüpft sie mit der Konzeption des Selbst. Die Korpusanalysen sind einerseits diachron angelegt (17. bis 21. Jahrhundert), andererseits textsorten- und genreübergreifend (Dramen, Briefe, Erzählungen), so dass Zeiträume in schematisch-diskursgrammatischer Perspektive durchschritten und Literatur und Realität miteinander vernetzt werden. Kognitionswissenschaftliche und gesellschaftspolitische Überlegungen zu sowie literarische und nicht-literarische Konfigurationen von sexualisierter Gewalt und Trauma komplettieren die Untersuchung. This study explores the role language plays when it comes to design realities and imaginations - and provides a suggestion for appreciative discourses and creativity.
