    Inwiefern haben die historischen Gegebenheiten der antiken Gesellschaft Palästinas des 1. Jahrhunderts die Jesusbewegung begünstigt oder beeinträchtigt? Welche Motive haben bewirkt, dass Menschen bei Jesus Hilfe suchten oder sich seiner Bewegung angeschlossen haben und ihm nachgefolgt sind? Im Horizont dieser Fragestellungen werden drei Motivkreise besonders beleuchtet: Krankheit und Heilung (Jesus als Heiler und Exorzist); wirtschaftliche Faktoren (Jesus befreit aus Armut, Verschuldung, sättigt die Hungernden); die machtpolitische Dimension (Jesus als von Gott bevollmächtigte Gestalt, als Befreier von Fremdherrschaft, Jesus als eschatologischer Herrscher).
