    Main description: Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit grundlegenden Aspekten des metaphorischen Sprechens. Methodologisch liegt der Untersuchung das Konzept einer kommunikativen Grammatik zugrunde, das im Anschluß an die sprachanalytische Philosophie Eingang in die Linguistik gefunden hat. Ausgehend von einer intensiven Diskussion gängiger Begriffe und Theoreme widmet sich die Arbeit der Frage, wie das Bilden und Verstehen von Metaphern auf dem Hintergrund eines pragmatischen Modells adäquat beschrieben werden kann. Auf der Grundlage eines umfangreichen Zeitungskorpus wird an einem Beispiel aus dem Multimedia-Diskurs aufgezeigt, wie eine Metapher in den Sprachgebrauch eingeführt wird und unter welchen Bedingungen es von der wiederholten Verwendung zur Habitualisierung und schließlich zur Konventionalisierung einer metaphorischen Lesart kommt

    Main description: The study is concerned with fundamental aspects of figurative speech. The methodology underlying the approach is a concept of communicative grammar which has found its way into linguistics via language-analytic philosophy. Proceeding from an intensive discussion of traditional concepts and theorems, the study sets out to inquire into the way the formation and understanding of metaphors can be adequately described against the background of a pragmatic model. On the basis of a large corpus of newspaper texts, an example taken from the discourse on multi-media is drawn upon to show how a metaphor is introduced into language usage and the conditions under which repeated use can lead to habitualization and ultimately to conventionalization of a metaphorical expression

    Descriptive grammars are our main vehicle for documenting and analysing the linguistic structure of the world's 6,000 languages. They bring together, in one place, a coherent treatment of how the whole language works, and therefore form the primary source of information on a given language, consulted by a wide range of users: areal specialists, typologists, theoreticians of any part of language (syntax, morphology, phonology, historical linguistics etc.), and members of the speech communities concerned. The writing of a descriptive grammar is a major intellectual challenge, that calls on the grammarian to balance a respect for the language's distinctive genius with an awareness of how other languages work, to combine rigour with readability, to depict structural regularities while respecting a corpus of real material, and to represent something of the native speaker's competence while recognising the variation inherent in any speech community. Despite a recent surge of awareness of the need to document little-known languages, there is no book that focusses on the manifold issues that face the author of a descriptive grammar. This volume brings together contributors who approach the problem from a range of angles. Most have written descriptive grammars themselves, but others represent different types of reader. Among the topics they address are: overall issues of grammar design, the complementary roles of outsider and native speaker grammarians, the balance between grammar and lexicon, cross-linguistic comparability, the role of explanation in grammatical description, the interplay of theory and a range of fieldwork methods in language description, the challenges of describing languages in their cultural and historical context, and the tensions between linguistic particularity, established practice of particular schools of linguistic description and the need for a universally commensurable analytic framework. This book will renew the field of grammaticography, addressing a multiple readership of descriptive linguists, typologists, and formal linguists, by bringing together a range of distinguished practitioners from around the world to address these questions.

Diese Einführung in die Grammatiktheorie gibt einen profunden Überblick von den ersten Anfängen bis zum heutigen Stand der Diskussion. Sie ist für Studierende der Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaften konzipiert.     Die vorliegende Studie befasst sich mit den wissenschaftsgeschichtlichen Quellen des spanischen Funktionalismus. Während der politischen Isolierung Spaniens im 20. Jahrhundert war es Alarcos Llorach, der als einziger spanischer Sprachwissenschaftler wissenschaftliche Kontakte ins ausland unterhalten konnte. durch ihn gelangten verschiedene Strömungen des europäischen Strukturalismus nach Spanien. vor allem die Kopenhagener Glossematik, die Prager Phonologie und die französische Dependenzgrammatik prägten so die spanische Grammatikographie. Bei Alacos Llorach verschmelzen glossematische und dependenzgrammatische Ansätze zu einem eigenen Satzmodell, das von seinen Schülern Hernández Alonso, Gutiérrez Ordónez und Martinez Garcia angewendet und weiterentwickelt wird. diese Studie untersucht sowohl Alarcos Llorachs Ansätze als auch die Ergebnisse seiner Schüler

    Questo volume si concentra sulla nozione di attributo e di frase attributiva, un terreno particolarmente fertile per la definizione di una cesura tra l'approccio, o meglio gli approcci, presenti nella tradizione tedesca e le categorie usate in Italia e in genere fuor di Germania. Lo scavo storiografico rivela come la progressiva stratificazione di concetti e termini di "antica" ascendenza, associata a differenti tentativi di aggiornamento, abbia dato origine alla situazione odierna, in cui i livelli di analisi diversi si intersecano, si sovrappongono e fondono in soluzioni che sono talvolta di difficile lettura. La parabola di tale percorso viene qui descritta e analizzata, dagli ultimi rappresentanti della tradizione della grammaire générale nei primi decenni del XIX secolo, fino alle trasformazioni più recenti della grammatica valenziale e generativa. Da Becker a Chomsky dunque, con uno sguardo particolare alle più diffuse grammatiche contemporanee
