Die erste deutschsprachige Ethnographie »gewöhnlicher« Weltumsegelungen diskutiert in einmalig umfassender Weise die Lebenswelt von Fahrtenseglern. Die Kulturanthropologin und Filmemacherin Martina Kleinert untersucht im Kontext von mobile culture studies, Reise- und Migrationsforschung die sozialen Beziehungen an Bord und in der Seglergemeinschaft - der Cruising Community -, aber auch die materielle Kultur der Fahrtenyacht selbst. Und sie behandelt die zentrale Frage nach der historischen Entwicklung: Veränderte GPS wirklich alles, und endete damit eine Ära? Segelten in den 1970ern durchwegs junge Zivilisationsflüchtlinge, während heute nur mehr wohlhabende Ruhestandsmigranten die südliche Sonne suchen?
