"It's the end of the DC Universe as we know it. The Anti-Life virus has ravaged the Earth, turning its population--and most of its greatest heroes--into mindless, ravening zombies. The Justice League has fallen. The survivors are clinging to life. And in these dark times, only the darkest among the world's metahumans will survive! Led by Deathstroke, the world's greatest assassin, a lethal crew of villains and antiheroes has survived the initial onslaught, and they've been assembled by the immortal mastermind Vandal Savage as the unlikely guardians of the last lives on the planet. Meanwhile, the no-holds-barred antihero Red Hood--a.k.a. Jason Todd, the former Robin--has brought together a squad of crime-fighters and vigilantes, dedicated to turning back the darkness. No one expected these two groups to be the saviors of (super)humanity. But unless they all put aside their differences and fight together as one, Anti-Life will reign supreme."--

F. Choy. The meanings of disease have undergone such drastic changes with the introduction of modern Western medicine into China during the last two hundred years that new discourses have been invented to theorize illness, redefine health, and reconstruct classes and genders. As a consequence, medical literature is rewritten with histories of hygiene, studies of psychopathology, and stories of cancer, disabilities and pandemics. This edited volume includes studies of discourses about both bodily and psychiatric illness in modern China, bringing together ground-breaking scholarships that reconfigure the fields of history, literature, film, psychology, anthropology, and gender studies by tracing the pathological path of the “Sick Man of East Asia” through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries into the new millennium

With great economy and precision, it tells the story of an unprecedented new disease--the Dispersion of the title--and its effects on both individual sufferers and the fragmented social structure they inhabit."--Provided by publisher

In this vitally important book, medical anthropologist Holly Wardlow takes readers through a ten-year history of the AIDS epidemic in Tari, Papua New Guinea, focusing on the political and economic factors that make women vulnerable to HIV and on their experiences with antiretroviral therapy. Alive with the women’s stories about being trafficked to gold mines, resisting polygynous marriages, and struggling to be perceived as morally upright, Fencing in AIDS demonstrates that being female shapes every aspect of the AIDS epidemic. Offering crucial insights into the anthropologies of mining, ethics, and gender, this is essential reading for scholars and professionals addressing the global AIDS crisis today.
