Supposedly innocent, practices of comparing play a decisive role in forming categories, boundaries, and hierarchies; but they can also give an impetus to question and change such structures. Like almost no other human practice, comparing pervades all social, political, economic, and cultural spheres. This volume outlines the program of a new research agenda that places comparative practices at the center of an interdisciplinary exploration. Its contributions combine case studies with overarching systematic considerations. They show what insights can be gained and which further questions arise when one makes a seemingly trivial practice - comparing - the subject of in-depth research

Diese erreichen nicht nur ein akademisches Nischenpublikum, sondern erzielen insgesamt hohe Zuschauer"en. Die Beiträge des Bandes analysieren, wie der Gegenstand Politik in den Serien aufgegriffen und als Material für ihre auf Unterhaltung ausgerichteten Erzählungen aufgearbeitet wird. Über die Auseinandersetzung mit popkulturellen Produkten zeigen sie, wie politische Bilder in populären Filmen und Serien konstruiert und reproduziert werden und wie diese sich auf Wahrnehmungen und Vorstellungen von Politik auswirken. Das Interesse gilt dabei den konstruierten Bildern von Politik im Allgemeinen, aber auch den sich darin äußernden nationalen Besonderheiten. The analysis of political series is not interesting as a comparison of fiction with reality but rather because of the images and narratives they contain, which provide more information about politics.

    Zusammenfassung: This article wants to add some methodological precision to the contemporary-historical interpretation of Revelation as it has become conventional: When John the seer refers to the world in which his addressees live, he does not only produce an encoded picture thereof, but, within his world of images and by his radicalizing interpretation and evaluation, he endows it with added cognitive value: The book wants to enable its readers to make sense of the world in which they live. Basic hermeneutical reflections and three case studies (Rev 2–3; Rev 6; Rev 13/17) show that the imagery of Revelation does depart from concrete phenomena in the cities of Asia Minor, but, at the same time, moves beyond mere historical reference
