This study examines the intertwined politics surrounding art and modernisation in Morocco from 1912 to the present by considering the structure of the museum not only as a modern institution but also as a national monument to modernity, asking what happens when museum monuments start to crumble. In an analysis of museum history, exhibition policy, the lack of national museum space for modern art, and postmodern exhibit spaces in Morocco, this book focuses on the role that art plays in the social fabric of a modernising Morocco.

In this exuberant celebration of the worlds museums, great and small, revered writers like Ann Patchett, Julian Barnes, Ali Smith, and more tell us about their favorite museums, including the Lower East Side Tenement Museum in New York, the Musée Rodin in Paris, and the Prado in Madrid. These essays, collected from the pages of The Economists Intelligent Life magazine, reveal the special hold that some museums have over us all. Acclaimed novelist William Boyd visits the Leopold Museum in Vienna--a shrine to his favorite artist, Egon Schiele, whom Boyd first discovered on a postcard as a University student. In front of her favorite Rodins, Allison Pearson recalls a traumatic episode she suffered at the hands of a schoolteacher following a trip to the Musée in Paris. Neil Gaiman admires the fantastic world depicted in British outsider artist Richard Dadds "The Fairy Fellers Master-Stroke," a tiny painting that also decorated the foldout cover of a Queen album, housed in the Victorian room of Tate Britains Pre-Raphaelite collection. Ann Patchett fondly revisits Harvard Universitys Museum of Natural History--which she discovered at 19, while in the throes of summer romance with a biology student named Jack. Treasure Palaces is a treasure trove of wonders, a tribute to the diversity and power of the museums, the safe-keepers of our worlds most extraordinary artifacts, and an intimate look into the deeply personal reveries we fall into when before great art. --

Tadao Ando's remarkable Casa Wabi dots the Pacific coastline of Mexico with structures by Alberto Kalach, Alvaro Siza, Kengo Kuma, Gloria Cabral, Solano Benitez, Jorge Ambrosi, and Gabriela Etchegaray. Founded in 2013 by renowned Mexican artist Bosco Sodi, it combines artist residencies, a gallery, and living quarters with classrooms, gardens, and public space. Tadao Ando centers the foundation on a 312-meter-long wall; his trademark concrete structures radiate off it, capped in woven palm tree leaves for ventilation. These local palapa-style roofs are often the only element distinguishing indoor and outdoor spaces, an effect complemented by wooden shutters in place of paned glass windows. Other unusual native building materials include Mexican parota wood and marmolina. Led by director Carla Sodi, Casa Wabi challenges architects and artists to contemplate nature deeply, as it provides new tools for area residents. Casa Wabi is both a world-class architectural destination and a model for new strategies of creative intervention within economically depressed communities

"Traditionally sight has been the only sense with a ticket to enter the museum. The same is true of histories of art, in which artworks are often presented as purely visual objects. The Museum of the Senses offers a sensory history of art and collections, revealing how people used to handle, smell and even taste artworks and artefacts. Topics range from the tactile power of relics to the sensuous allure of cabinets of curiosities, and from the feel of a Rembrandt to the scent of Monet's garden. The book concludes with a discussion of how contemporary museums are stimulating the senses through interactive and multimedia displays. Constance Classen, a leading authority on the cultural history of the senses, has produced a fascinating study of sensual and emotional responses to artefacts from the middle ages to the present. The Museum of the Senses is an important read for anyone interested in the history of art as well as for students and researchers in cultural studies and museum studies"...

For more than 50 years, Dico Kremer has photographed people. His attentive and always sensitive eye on the record of spontaneous reactions captured thousands of images of anonymous visitors to the Oscar Niemeyer Museum between March 2016 and November 2019. Many striking moments of special and unique moments, such as the impression of someone appreciating a certain work of art, were immortalized by his camera.Curated by Professor Fernando Bini, 84 photos were selected from more than 5,000 records and were transformed into the exhibition Gente no MONʺ (People at MON), a realization of the Museumu. Dico can be considered a natural observer of people. Always attentive to the arts, in the many years he lived in Europe, being a frequent visitor to the main museums in several countries, he felt interest in the reaction of visitors to the works. There began the conception of the exhibition that was carried out at MON. Mário Frederico Medeiros Kremer, also known as Dico Kremer, is a professional photographer specialized in commercial and marketing pictures that demand an elevated technical quality therewith and therefore, he traveled a lot and worked in several countries besides Brazil. He lives in Portugal.

This catalogue for the 5th Art Brut Biennial at the Collection de l'Art Brut in Lausanne highlights the museum's holdings with a focus on the subject of belief. In a wide range of mediums, the show reveals the particular link between Art Brut and Outsider artists, religion, and the occult. The subjects of these works include deities, saints, religious figures, as well as abstract compositions, symbolist paintings, and ritual objects. With their diverse and original representations of belief, these artists transcend the often difficult conditions of their lives. Exhibition: 5th Art Brut Biennial, the Collection de l'Art Brut, Lausanne, Switzerland (17.12.2021 - 01.05.2022)

The Museum of the Senses is an important read for anyone interested in the history of art as well as for students and researchers in cultural studies and museum studies."-- Machine generated contents note: -- 1.
