    Abstract: Springen, Fallen, Spritzen und Explodieren sind Flüchtigkeitsphänomene, die in jüngerer Geschichte durch mediale Inszenierungen Sensationswert erhalten haben und unser kulturelles Bildbewusstsein prägen. Auf der Grundlage einer kulturwissenschaftlich orientierten Bildwissenschaft rekonstruiert der Autor Ursprung und Wandel von Plötzlichkeitsmotiven, um die daraus entstehenden Semantiken und Faszinationseffekte zu ermitteln. Ausgehend von Beispielen aus der wissenschaftlichen, populärkulturellen, journalistischen und Mode-Ikonografie werden Produktionen des visuell Außergewöhnlichen verfolgt sowie überraschende Verbindungen zwischen unterschiedlichen Visualitätskulturen aufgezeigt. Ein reiches Bildmaterial belegt eindrucksvoll, wie Aufzeichnungsmedien an der Herstellung von modernen Ereigniserfahrungen teilhaben

    Abstract: Der Syrienkonflikt begegnet uns seit seinen Anfängen vor allem in Videos, die zunächst mit Smartphones, später auch mit hochauflösenden Actionkameras aufgenommen wurden. Verbreitet über das Internet werden diese Videos von einer internationalen Berichterstattung, aber auch von Kunst- und Filmschaffenden aufgegriffen. Die Autorin entwickelt in diesem Kontext eine Forschungsperspektive, die auf innovative Weise Videos der Gewalt und des Todes für einen wissenschaftlichen Zugriff erschließbar und damit verbundene aktivistische, jihadistische und rechtspopulistische Praktiken im Spannungsfeld von Ästhetisierung und Politisierung kritisierbar macht

    Abstract: Memes dienen nicht nur der popkulturellen Unterhaltung oder der Kunst, sie werden auch in der Politik, in lokalen und internationalen Wahlkämpfen oder auf Demonstrationen verwendet. In ihrer typischsten Form sind sie Text-Bild-Gefüge, die sich digital mit viraler Geschwindigkeit verbreiten und transformieren. Die Autor*innen nehmen sich dieses Internetphänomens aus kulturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive an. Sie betreten Neuland, indem sie einzelne Memes kasuistisch analysieren und ihre Erkenntnisse systematisieren, um diese digitale Kommunikationsform definitorisch neu zu bestimmen - in stetem Bezug zu anderen digitalen Phänomenen wie dem trolling

    Abstract: Qualitative social and cultural research is increasingly engaging with visual data. Starting from the premise "all is data" in grounded theory methodology (GTM), we propose a general framework to realize a visual grounded theory methodology (VGTM). Referring to exploratory visual methods based on objective hermeneutics, the documentary method, and segment analysis, as well as existing GTM discourses, we discuss how this text-centered procedure can be applied to visual data. We focus on the (re)formulation of procedural steps (such as making an inventory, segmentation and coding, memo writing, and sampling strategies), and the examination of images in relation to GTM logic

    Abstract: Prince V. F. Odoyevsky (1803-1869) was the Russian writer, philosopher, musicologist and subtle musical critic, public figure, founder of "Society of philosophy-lovers" and author of "Motley Tales with Witticisms", fascinating monument of native culture; the book was published only once during the life of the writer and afterwards was not republished as the cycle. In literary criticism "Motley Tales" as the unified and important cycle by V. F. Odoyevsky were given scant coverage, although this literary work marked the beginning of new period in the writer's oeuvre; an image of narrator Homoseyko is especially interesting because it is not only the intellectual hero, but also the alter ego of the writer. "Motley Tales" manifest a unique opportunity of watching the rising of themes and motives which will be revealed in the writer's creation later, as well as following the formation of philosophical, aesthetic and artistic principles of author, as his fairy tales include the patterns

    Abstract: Antony Pogorelsky (1787-1836) (the pseudonym of А. А. Perovsky) was one of the writers active in the early stages of Russian romantic prose, when romanticism, with its new artistic outlook based on rapt attention towards and keen interest in the inner world of feelings and emotions of its literary heroes, replaced the literary movement of sentimentalism with its orientation toward the ideas of the enlightenment. The current article is aimed at the investigation of the first book by A. Pogorelsky "The Double, or My Evenings in Malorossia", the novelty of which lies not only in the fact that the book is directly correlated with the traditions of West European romanticism (which was undoubtedly well-known to the writer), but also in the introduction of a new principle of composition into Russian literature (the cycle of several stories united through dialogic framing), which was the first experiment of this kind in the Russian literary environment and would soon become one of the favo

    Abstract: This contribution proposes a methodological framework for empirical research into visual practices on social media. The framework identifies practices, pictures and platforms as relevant dimensions of analysis. It is mainly developed within, and is compatible with qualitative, interpretive approaches which focus on visual communication as part of everyday personal communicative practices. Two screenshots from Instagram and Facebook are introduced as empirical examples to investigate collaborative practices of meaning-making relating to pictures on social media. While social media seems to augment reflexive, processual practices of negotiating identities, visual media, in particular, amps up aesthetic, ambivalent and embodied dimensions within these practices

    Abstract: "Zeichnungen sind ein bedeutendes Ausdrucksmittel für Kinder. Darum ist es erstaunlich, dass sich die sozialwissenschaftliche Forschung zu Kindern nicht stärker für sie interessiert. Dass dieses einzigartige Mittel der Erkundung der Perspektiven von Kindern kaum genutzt wird, dürfte seinen Grund darin haben, dass die meisten der zur Verfügung stehenden Methoden der Bildanalyse als diesem Gegenstand nicht angemessen wahrgenommen werden. Im Aufsatz soll mittels einer exemplarisch vorgenommenen Analyse die Frage zur Diskussion gestellt werden, ob ein bildhermeneutisches Verfahren, das sich methodisch an der Objektiven Hermeneutik orientiert und das man auch methodologisch darin verankern kann, dem Gegenstand möglicherweise gerecht werden kann. Der Zeichnung als Niederschlag einer kindlichen bildnerischen Ausdruckshandlung, die in sich motiviert ist als Vollzug des biographischen Entwicklungsprozesses, soll sich diese Methode anschmiegen.     Abstract: "Der Beitrag entwirft das methodische Verfahren einer hermeneutisch-wissenssoziologisch begründeten ästhetischen Re|Konstruktionsanalyse. Deren grundlegende Idee ist es, künstlerisch-gestalterische Mittel systematisch und methodisch kontrolliert für die Sinnrekonstruktion visueller Daten fruchtbar zu machen. Wie aber lassen sich überhaupt Kompetenzen und Arbeitsweisen der Kunst und des Designs mit der sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschung verbinden, um ein produktives Miteinander von künstlerisch-gestalterischem Handeln und kognitiver Reflexion zu erzeugen? Mit der Konzeption der ästhetischen Re|Konstruktionsanalyse unterbreitet der Artikel einen konkreten Vorschlag anhand der Interpretation unbewegter Bilder.     Abstract: Utopian images in XR-games are often ambiguous. How can ambiguity be consciously designed in virtual worlds? What are the design principles for game designers? Ambiguity arises from discontinuity and decontextualization, from the deliberate omission of facts, and from the skillful superimposition of contradictory codes. An ontology of interactive media explains the elusive visual poetry and image perception. The five basic elements of media are presented. The model shows the key correlations of user, content, and technology in image perception. An overview of utopian representation as a cross-media phenomenon places game design in an interdisciplinary context. Six selected computer-generated illustrations show how the above design criteria can be successfully applied to the design of virtual worlds. The ambiguous utopia of an image exists only in a brief, irretrievable moment of our own perception. But this moment is valuable for designing real visions for a better future
