    Der Ornithologe Prum versucht in diesem Buch den schon bei Charles Darwin in "Die Abstammung des Menschen" vorgebrachten ästhetischen Aspekt der Evolutionstheorie für die Wissenschaft zu rehabilitieren. Folgt man dem Autor, dann steht der natürlichen Zuchtwahl quasi in einem koevolutionären Prozess eine sexuelle Selektion beiseite oder auch entgegen, die sich nach dem "Geschmack für das Schöne" richtet. Erst diese Seite der Partnerwahl erkläre die Überfülle an Schönem in der Natur. Das setzt nun subjektive Empfindung für Schönheit und ein gewisses Urteilsvermögen der Individuen voraus, die von vielen Fachkollegen Prums bezweifelt werden. - Aber auch diese (zzt.?) nicht mehrheitsfähige Lehrmeinung des Yale-Professors darf gröe︣ren Bibliotheken empfohlen werden, zumal sie in sehr guter Sachprosa auch dem Laien reichlich Stoff bietet, über den Prozess der stammesgeschichtlichen Entwicklung nachzudenken. Hinzu kommt die dem Thema angemessene Gestaltung des Buches
