Indem es eine kulturelle Subjektform verkörpert, wird es nicht nur als zurechnungsfähiger Akteur anerkennbar, sondern beeinflusst auch seine Umgebung. Mit dem Begriffspaar »Selbst-Bildung« und »Subjektivierung« gerät somit zugleich das spannungsvolle Ineinander von Doing Subject und Doing Culture in den Blick. Die geistes- und gesellschaftswissenschaftlichen Beiträge dieses Bands eint das Anliegen, kulturelle Spielräume der Subjektivierung unabhängig von gängigen historischen Epocheneinteilungen auszuloten. Biographical note: Thomas Alkemeyer (Prof. Dr. phil.) lehrt Soziologie, Sportsoziologie und Kulturwissenschaft an der Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind soziologische Praxistheorien, die Soziologie des Körpers und des Sports, Genealogien der Gegenwart sowie die kultursoziologische Subjektivierungsforschung. Gunilla Budde (Prof. Dr. phil.) lehrt deutsche und europäische Geschichte des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts an der Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind das europäische Bürgertum, DDR, Bildungsgeschichte, Musikgeschichte und neue Politikgeschichte. Dagmar Freist (Prof. Dr. phil.) lehrt Europäische Geschichte der Frühen Neuzeit an der Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg. Long description: Das Konzept der »transkulturellen Dynamiken« dient in diesem Band dazu, die zunehmende Mobilität und gegenseitige Durchdringung von Kulturen zu fassen. Die Beiträge betrachten Artefakte, soziale Praktiken und Phänomene der Hoch- wie der Populärkultur aus dem Blickwinkel unterschiedlicher Disziplinen (u.a. American Studies, Sinologie, Sportsoziologie, Ethnologie, Geschichts-, Medien-, Theater- und Literaturwissenschaft).     Das Konzept der »transkulturellen Dynamiken« dient in diesem Band dazu, die zunehmende Mobilität und gegenseitige Durchdringung von Kulturen zu fassen. Die Beiträge betrachten Artefakte, soziale Praktiken und Phänomene der Hoch- wie der Populärkultur aus dem Blickwinkel unterschiedlicher Disziplinen (u.a. American Studies, Sinologie, Sportsoziologie, Ethnologie, Geschichts-, Medien-, Theater- und Literaturwissenschaft). Sie untersuchen, welchen Gesetzmäßigkeiten »transkulturelle Dynamiken« unterliegen, welche Rollen verschiedene Aktanten einnehmen und inwieweit sich Theorien und Methoden einer transdisziplinären Transkulturalität entwickeln lassen. The concept of »cross-cultural dynamics« is used in this volume to outline increasing mobility and reciprocal cultural interpenetration. The contributions consider artifacts, social practices, and phenomena of high as well as popular culture from the perspective of different disciplines (including American Studies, Chinese studies, sports, sociology, ethnology, history, media, theater, and literature). They investigate which regularities underlie »transcultural dynamics«, what roles different actors assume, and to what extent theories and methods of a transdisciplinary transculturality can be developed.

Oft reicht unser eigenes „Rüstzeug“ für die Verständigung über kulturelle Grenzen hinweg nicht aus: Die vertraute Sprache wird nicht verstanden, Gesten werden falsch gedeutet, Zeit wird lokal verschieden wahrgenommen. Verständigung ist ohne die Kenntnis der Codes der anderen Kulturen schwierig. Entstehende Missverständnisse können soziale und wirtschaftliche Folgen haben, handfeste Konflikte oder einen Kulturschock auslösen.     Biographical note: Thomas Alkemeyer (Prof. Dr. phil.) lehrt Soziologie, Sportsoziologie und Kulturwissenschaft an der Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind soziologische Praxistheorien, die Soziologie des Körpers und des Sports, Genealogien der Gegenwart sowie die kultursoziologische Subjektivierungsforschung. Gunilla Budde (Prof. Dr. phil.) lehrt deutsche und europäische Geschichte des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts an der Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind das europäische Bürgertum, DDR, Bildungsgeschichte, Musikgeschichte und neue Politikgeschichte. Dagmar Freist (Prof. Dr. phil.) lehrt Europäische Geschichte der Frühen Neuzeit an der Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Öffentlichkeit und politische Kultur, religiöse Pluralisierung, Netzwerkforschung und Kulturtransfer sowie Praktiken der Subjektivierung in historischer und transkultureller Perspektive. Was »macht« ein Subjekt? Die Doppeldeutigkeit dieser praxistheoretischen Frage ist beabsichtigt: Mit dem Subjekt wird etwas getan - aber es wird auch selbst aktiv. Indem es eine kulturelle Subjektform verkörpert, wird es nicht nur als zurechnungsfähiger Akteur anerkennbar, sondern beeinflusst auch seine Umgebung. Mit dem Begriffspaar »Selbst-Bildung« und »Subjektivierung« gerät somit zugleich das spannungsvolle Ineinander von Doing Subject und Doing Culture in den Blick. Die geistes- und gesellschaftswissenschaftlichen Beiträge dieses Bands eint das Anliegen, kulturelle Spielräume der Subjektivierung unabhängig von gängigen historischen Epocheneinteilungen auszuloten.
