The question posed from a structural-theoretical-deconstructivist position on "Limitations for child-like subjects in their manifestation as actors in the context of childhood" forms the starting point of this dissertation project. In the framework of childhood research, children are currently underlined preferentially as actors. At this point, the present project marks its cognitive interest by asking about the discursive practices of the fabrication, framing, limitations and restrictions for "childlike" subjects. Childhood is discussed as a historical construct. Based on the findings of Philippe Ariès and Lloyd deMause different perspectives on it are outlined. Therefore, a field of tension and conflict will be opened up, in which the constructive character of modern childhood as a powerful social difference-relation is caught in the eye. Research findings and perspectives of current childhood research form further theoretical anchor points. The discourse-theoretical view of children, offered by Michel Foucault, as "subjects of childhood" as well as the concepts and thinking tools developed by him and the associated possibilities make it possible to think differently about childhood(s) and child(ren), and to explore differentiation lines and fields of formation.
Empirically, the source material “Bilderbuch” (picture and story book) is accessed, which is collected in the context of elementary-pedagogical institutions and qualitatively researched by means of a specially developed combination of method design. The aim of this work is to approach the phenomenon of childhood by tapping unpublished fragments of discourse and to complement the view on current childlike subjects in their manifestation as actors. In summary, the thesis is formulated that elementary educators in the context of kindergarten currently prefer picture books in which childlike subjects are portrayed as actors. However, it is demonstrated that these childlike actors are by no means to be understood as a single figure, but that they are thematically recorded in many different manifestations within the books. What they all have in common is that they remain limited as "non-adults" in the framework of childhood.
