    In der Realenzyklopädie des klassischen Altertums schrieb der Altphilologe Lesky, dass alle dergleichen Versuche völlig nichtig seien, dennoch bleibt die Irrfahrten-Geografie unter Gräzisten (U. Hölscher: "Die Odyssee", ID 6/89, Kapitel 11), Geografen (Helmut Amthauer: "Ein Geograph nimmt Homer beim Wort", H. Warnecke: "Homers Wilder Westen", beide hier nicht besprochen) oder Reiseschriftstellern (W. Geisthövel, ID 22/07, E. Bradford, BA 6/89) u.a. ein Thema. Am eindringlichsten und längsten hat sich aber wohl der Historiker Wolf mit der Lokalisierung der Lotophagen, Kyklopen, Laistrygonen usw. beschäftigt. Die 1. Publikation brachte Wolf mit seinem Bruder Hans-Helmut unter dem Titel "Der Weg des Odysseus" 1968 heraus, unter beider Namen erschien dann "Die wirkliche Reise des Odysseus" (ID 9/84; 1990 als erweiterte Ausgabe), jetzt liegt unter dem Titel "Homers Reise" erneut eine bezüglich Text- und Bild erweiterte Darstellung vor, die verschlissene Exemplare ersetzen kann, in öffentlichen Bibliotheken aber nicht unbedingt anstelle der letzten Ausgaben treten muss
