    Die Darstellungsweisen von Glücksangeboten in den westlichen Gesellschaften seit den 1968er Jahren sind ebenso vielfältig wie aufschlussreich. In Zusammenarbeit unterschiedlicher Disziplinen erarbeiten die Beiträger*innen des Bandes auf einer gemeinsamen kulturwissenschaftlichen Basis eine Ästhetik und Rhetorik der Glücksversprechen alternativer Lebensentwürfe und erschließen deren multiple Funktionen. Sie tragen damit zur Sensibilisierung für die Konstruktivität zirkulierender Alternativdiskurse bei und schaffen ein Bewusstsein für ihre Rolle als potenzieller Katalysator in kulturellen Transformationsprozessen

    This essay examines Tajuana Butler’s Sorority Sisters (1998) regarding its portrayal of friendship, sisterhood, and sorority culture. The novel conceptualizes ‘sisterhood’ as a fictive kinship structure and emphasizes the empowering potential of friendship among women. It fully embraces sorority culture and presents pledging as a ‘social drama’ in all its facets. Overall, Sorority Sisters provides an intervention into dominant representations of sorority life and black femininity. Yet, this intervention hinges on a discursive system of control shaped by conventional femininity and an uncritical affirmation of the ideology, practices, and significance of sororities.

    In political and media debates, questions of societal homogeneity and heterogeneity are discussed using the keyword "parallel societies." The open concept of "parasocieties" in this volume sets itself in opposition to this reductionist gesture, thereby enabling a differentiated understanding of media reflections upon socio-political and societal interactions with diversity in the present day. In politischen und medialen Debatten werden unter dem häufig stigmatisierend gebrauchten Schlagwort ,Parallelgesellschaft' Fragen sozialer Homogenität und Heterogenität kontrovers diskutiert. Diesem reduktionistischen Gestus setzt der Band das offene Konzept der ,Paragesellschaft' entgegen und ermöglicht dadurch eine differenzierte Annäherung an mediale Reflexionen des soziopolitischen und gesellschaftlichen Umgangs mit Diversität in verschiedenen Dispositiven der Gegenwart.

    This essay examines Tajuana Butler’s Sorority Sisters (1998) regarding its portrayal of friendship, sisterhood, and sorority culture. The novel conceptualizes ‘sisterhood’ as a fictive kinship structure and emphasizes the empowering potential of friendship among women. It fully embraces sorority culture and presents pledging as a ‘social drama’ in all its facets. Overall, Sorority Sisters provides an intervention into dominant representations of sorority life and black femininity. Yet, this intervention hinges on a discursive system of control shaped by conventional femininity and an uncritical affirmation of the ideology, practices, and significance of sororities.
