Their range of expression contains a tremendous variety of forms, genres and modes − from high to low, from serial entertainment for children to complex works of art. This has led to a growing interest in comics as a field of scholarly analysis, as comics studies has established itself as a major branch of criticism. This handbook combines a systematic survey of theories and concepts developed in the field alongside an overview of the most important contexts and themes and a wealth of close readings of seminal works and authors.     Die afrikanische Literatur der Gegenwart ist so bunt und aufregend wie der Kontinent selbst. Der Blick der Autorinnen und Autoren richtet sich auf die eigene Region, das eigene Land, die Familie, aber gleichzeitig auch auf den globalen Kontext von Migration und Exil. Afrikanische Literatur ist damit im eigentlichen Sinne Weltliteratur, indem sie für die Welt Bilder von Afrika zeichnet, aber auch ein Bild von Afrika in der Welt. Dieser Band versammelt eine Reihe von Porträts von anglophonen Autorinnen und Autoren, die international als maßgebliche literarische Stimmen des Kontinents wahrgenommen werden und die verschiedenen Facetten Afrikas widerspiegeln. Dazu gehören etablierte Größen wie die beiden Literaturnobelpreisträger J. M. Coetzee (Südafrika) und Abdulrazak Gurnah (Tansania), aber auch Nuruddin Farah (Somalia), die für die Entstehung einer unabhängigen, post-kolonialen afrikanischen Literaturtradition stehen, zudem auch Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie und Teju Cole (Nigeria), die eine transnationale Perspektive auf die Gegenwart entwickeln, und nicht zuletzt Nnedi Okorafor (Nigeria), die als amerikanischafrikanische Autorin Afrika in den Kanon der Science Fiction einschreibt. In der Literatur, die in diesem Band besprochen wird, ist die Vergangenheit, die Gegenwart und die Zukunft afrikanisch – ein spannendes Leseabenteuer für die interessierte Weltöffentlichkeit.     Die afrikanische Literatur der Gegenwart ist so bunt und aufregend wie der Kontinent selbst. Der Blick der Autorinnen und Autoren richtet sich auf die eigene Region, das eigene Land, die Familie, aber gleichzeitig auch auf den globalen Kontext von Migration und Exil. Afrikanische Literatur ist damit im eigentlichen Sinne Weltliteratur, indem sie für die Welt Bilder von Afrika zeichnet, aber auch ein Bild von Afrika in der Welt. Dieser Band versammelt eine Reihe von Porträts von anglophonen Autorinnen und Autoren, die international als maßgebliche literarische Stimmen des Kontinents wahrgenommen werden und die verschiedenen Facetten Afrikas widerspiegeln. Dazu gehören etablierte Größen wie die beiden Literaturnobelpreisträger J. M. Coetzee (Südafrika) und Abdulrazak Gurnah (Tansania), aber auch Nuruddin Farah (Somalia), die für die Entstehung einer unabhängigen, post-kolonialen afrikanischen Literaturtradition stehen, zudem auch Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie und Teju Cole (Nigeria), die eine transnationale Perspektive auf die Gegenwart entwickeln, und nicht zuletzt Nnedi Okorafor (Nigeria), die als amerikanischafrikanische Autorin Afrika in den Kanon der Science Fiction einschreibt. In der Literatur, die in diesem Band besprochen wird, ist die Vergangenheit, die Gegenwart und die Zukunft afrikanisch – ein spannendes Leseabenteuer für die interessierte Weltöffentlichkeit.
