    Dieses Buch untersucht, wie und unter welchen Bedingungen die 'Fremde' zunächst in einer konkreten Begegnung erfahren und anschließend schreibend und lesend konstruiert, also in Texten verfügbar gemacht und im Rezeptionsprozess erneut hergestellt wird. Dabei werden auch Fragen nach den Bedingungen, Spielräumen und Grenzen des Fremdverstehens reflektiert. Im Mittelpunkt der Untersuchung stehen exemplarisch deutschsprachige Texte über Japan, u. a. von Bernhard Kellermann, Max Dauthendey und Gerhard Roth. Herausgearbeitet und analysiert werden auf inhaltlicher, sprachlicher und formaler Ebene insbesondere die Strukturen und Tradierungen sowie die Musterbildungen, in denen sich die Konstruktionen der 'Fremde Japan' vollziehen. Einen ersten Schwerpunkt der Untersuchung bilden die japanbezogenen Werke Bernhard Kellermanns. Anhand der Textsorte Brief wird dann eine spezifische Form des Schreibens aus und über Japan genauer fokussiert. Die Untersuchung der Komponenten 'Lesen' und 'Schrift' als inhaltliche Elemente der Texte zeigt abschließend, inwiefern 'Lesen' als Metaphernkomplex und als Wahrnehmungshaltung die Grundfigur der Fremdbegegnung bildet, und wie die 'fremde Schrift' als 'unlesbar' konstruiert und funktionalisiert wird.

    Der Autor stellt erste Ergebnisse und weitere Vorhaben des Projekts 'Interkulturelle Kompetenz im Unternehmen. Entwicklung, Nutzung, Theoriebildung, Praxis 1895-1995 (IKU)' vor, welches von der Volkswagen-Stiftung im Forschungsschwerpunkt 'Das Fremde und das Eigene' gefördert wurde. Das Projekt IKU ist interdisziplinär ausgerichtet und orientiert sich an Theorien aus den Sozialwissenschaften, der Psychologie, Anthropologie und Linguistik, um deren Hypothesen und Modelle zur interkulturellen Kommunikation historisch-empirisch zu prüfen und weiter zu differenzieren. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden empirische Beispiele aus der historischen Teildisziplin der Unternehmensgeschichte vorgestellt, wobei Quellenmaterial aus den Unternehmensarchiven der BMW AG und der Siemens AG ausgewertet wird. Bei den Untersuchungsbereichen handelt es sich im einzelnen um 'Kultur, Kulturstandards und interkulturelle Kompetenz', 'Auslandsentsendung und interkulturelle Persönlichkeit' und 'Interkulturelle Verhandlungsführung'. Jeder Abschnitt enthält Theorieangebote aus den genannten humanwissenschaftlichen Disziplinen sowie empirische Beispiele. Abschließend wird ein Ausblick zur 'Historischen Xenologie' gegeben. Company records from BMW and Siemens archives are used as sources in order to check the most important theories and models of intercultural communication empirically. Theories of e.g. cultural standards, culture shock, and critical incidents are analysed in three sections: 'Culture, cultural standards, and intercultural competence' (2), 'Expatriates and intercultural personality' (3), and 'Intercultural negotiations' (4). Each section contains a theoretical part, an empirical part, and an analysis how both fit together. A last section (5) shows the greater dimensions of 'Historical Xenology' as new research field.'     Beschreibungen der verschiedenen Sprachen sind grundsätzlich unvollständig bzw. lückenhaft. Das liegt an der Komplexität des Phänomens Sprache, aber auch an dem Entwicklungsstand und dem Umfang der einzelnen Linguistiktraditionen, die diesbezüglich etliche Unterschiede aufweisen. Daher kann der Blick auf andere Sprachen/ Sprachbeschreibungen auf die Lücken bzw. Unzulänglichkeiten der einzelnen Sprachbeschreibungen aufmerksam machen. Das bildet den Ausgangspunkt der interkulturellen Systemgrammatik. Wenn Sprachen/Sprachbeschreibungen aufeinander bezogen werden, kann das eine vervollständigende Funktion für die beteiligten Sprachbeschreibungen haben. Man kann Phänomene bzw. Probleme aufdecken, die in der vorhandenen grammatischen Beschreibung nicht erfasst sind bzw. nicht existieren, und/oder adäquatere Erklärungsmuster für gemeinsame Phänomene oder Lösungen für Problembereiche finden. Dieser Beitrag will die Voraussetzungen der interkulturellen Systemgrammatik und an Hand des grammatischen Transfers zwischen dem Deutschen und Arabischen ihre Vorgehensweisen und Erkenntnisinteressen vorstellen. ; Descriptions of various languages are fundamentally incomplete and fragmentary. This is due to the complexity of language, and also to the extent and level of development of linguistic traditions that have quite a few differences among them. Therefore, the views of other languages and/or language descriptions may draw attention to the gaps or inadequacies of the individual language descriptions. This is the starting point for intercultural formal grammar. When languages and/or language descriptions are related to each other both descriptions may gain and become more comprehensive.     Für die Weiterentwicklung der Forschung zur interkulturellen Kommunikation haben die Sprachwissenschaften über Jahrzehnte hinweg zahlreiche und vielschichtige Beiträge sowie wegweisende Operationalisierungen beigetragen. Ein Forschungsüberblick über die Jahre 2004 bis 2011 zeigt, dass sich die Sprachwissenschaften zunehmend aus einer Arbeit an der Entwicklung von Modellen zu einer präzisen Nachzeichnung von Auswirkungen von Kultur auf soziales Handeln zurückgezogen haben. Ein möglicher Grund für diesen Rückzug wird in den kritischen Debatten um den Kulturbegriff in der US-amerikanischen Kulturanthropologie um die Jahrtausendwende gesehen. Während die Kulturanthropologie selbst sowie einige Nachbardisziplinen zwischenzeitlich konstruktive Formen des Umgangs mit dem damals angemahnten Konstruktionscharakter des eigenen Forschungsgegenstands entwickelt haben, ist diese Transformation der Herangehensweise an den Kulturbegriff von den Sprachwissenschaften bislang nur in geringem Maße mitvollzogen worden. Der vorliegende Beitrag zeigt Wege einer Integration konstruktivistischer und performanzbasierter Kulturverständnisse in die Sprachwissenschaften auf, die mit Methoden der Membership Categorization Analysis (MCA) aus der ethnomethodologischen Konversationsanalyse gewinnbringend beschrieben und erforscht werden können. ; Linguists have contributed significantly to intercultural research delivering precise and promising operationalizations of culture for decades. This paper provides a literature review on linguistic research on intercultural communication for the years from 2004 to 2011. This review shows that linguists successively have started to retreat from precisely looking at how aspects of culture may influence social interaction.     The linguistic trinity policy, which has been implemented in Kazakhstan since its independence in the 1990s, is aimed at integrating translation into global processes. Kazakh-Russian bilingualism, caused by the historical and geopolitical proximity of the two countries, is now turning into trilingualism, joining up with English as the dominant language for international communication. Literary translation as a part of cross-cultural communication is also involved in social inclusion processes, contributing to the exchange of cultural values and a better understanding of modern multilingual Kazakhstani society. This article focuses on the issue of presenting Kazakh literature in translation through a mediating language and the research involves an analysis of culture-related lexemes as representations of a nomadic lifestyle in the mirror of intercultural communication. The authors highlight cultural and linguistic aspects of Kazakh transmitted from the mediatory Russian into the target English. Based on a review of previous findings on indirect literary translation, this article discusses whether a mediating language affects the inclusion of Kazakh culture in the globalization process.

    In the lingo-cultural environment, the language landscape of the world is a means of expression of cultural stereotypes, symbols and standards that shape society. The national mentality is one of the main aspects of language thinking. Therefore, studying the transmission of national-cultural characteristics of the original text in the translation process plays a crucial role in intercultural communication. The breadth of theoretical concepts and research methods characterizes modern translation studies. Especially in recent years, there has been an increasing interest in translation. Traditional translation has long been influenced by structural linguistics. In modern times, new perspectives on translation creativity have emerged. Cognitive approaches, in particular, have gained popularity among researchers in recent years.The development of translation studies demonstrates that translation, like any form of transfer, can never be flawless. Consequently, no translation can be the same as the original. This indicates that the translator should be concerned with interpreting the source text and its creation in the translated language.Translators should not limit themselves to just familiarizing themselves with the vocabulary of the target language but should also study the ethnocultural and psycholinguistic aspects of language carriers. In doing so, they will encounter fewer problems and avoid embarrassing situations. Usually, gross errors appear in machine translation, mainly when translating personal names as common nouns rather than anthroponyms.

    Our world is a modern globalised world, and communication is essential. Preserving civilisations and cultures has a dominant societal position in the contemporary era. In this regard, most of the communicative processes in the world refer to intercultural communication. That is why the interest of researchers in the issues of language and culture, intercultural communication, and linguoculturology is growing.It is known that stable associations reflect the characteristics of people's perception of the surrounding world and the natural world around them. The cognitive mechanisms in forming a stable combination are the people's history, traditions, lifestyle, the geographical world in which they are surrounded, and other factors. All these things we have listed affect people's thinking and are reflected in the language to express a kind of thinking. All these factors constitute a particular research object in linguistic and cultural studies.The interaction of language and culture is manifested in stable combinations. Linguistics reflects the cognitive thinking of this or that nation. It studies the language of the people's view of the world formed based on millennia of real-life experience. Linguistic factors can manifest themselves in stable combinations. Among linguistic units, the onomastic unit is the only language structure with a unitary component that is so closely related to culture. That is why the linguistic and cultural analysis of onomastic single-component stable compounds in both languages with different systems, like Azerbaijani and English, is of great interest.
