    Beschäftigt man sich mit Testungen bezogen auf Wirtschaftswissen und -können sowie die Einschätzung der eigenen Fähigkeiten in der Domäne Wirtschaft wird eines schnell deutlich: Nahezu alle Untersuchungen attestieren Frauen und Mädchen Defizite. Diese werden selten hinterfragt, sondern manifestieren ein ums andere Mal den Status Quo einer defizitorientierten Perspektive auf die Fähigkeiten von Frauen und Mädchen in der Ökonomischen Bildung. Hier setzt diese Arbeit an und strebt danach, die bisherige defizitorientierte Perspektive zu überwinden, indem sie einen konstruktivistischen Blick auf geschlechterdichotome Phänomene in der Ökonomischen Bildung wirft. Dabei wird der Frage nachgegangen, wie Schülerinnen und Schüler sich aktiv Themen der Ökonomischen Bildung im Rahmen von Forschendem Lernen erschließen und welche genderbezogenen Konstrukte dabei zu Tage treten. Diese Erkenntnisse sollen es nicht nur ermöglichen, Rückschlüsse zu einer gendersensiblen Ökonomischen Bildung und der Dekonstruktion von Geschlechterdichotomien zu geben, vielmehr ergeben sich Anregungen, Schülerinnen für Ökonomie zu begeistern und damit bisher ungenutzte Potenziale zu fördern.

    This policy brief examines regional economic development in Russia since the brutal invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. We focus on the logistics, construction, and industrial sectors as they are closely related to the structural changes in Russia's economy due to the war and sanctions. We examine available regional-level statistics concerning these sectors and form hypotheses for the regional variation observed. We also utilize official Russian publications and news items. We find that the shift in Russia's trade flows and sanctions related to trade logistics have had a limited effect on rerouting trade. This seems largely due to the constraints of existing infrastructure, logistical bottlenecks, and the robustness of Russian oil export volumes. Barring a few regions, infrastructure development related to the reorientation of the economy has no noticeable impact on construction. Construction growth in regions bordering Ukraine is driven by war-related construction. Militaryindustrial production seems to be the national driver for most fast-growing industrial sectors. Regional-level data reflects this high growth in many traditional military-industrial hubs.

    Two well established stylized facts of economic development are a strong correlation between investment and income, and large differences in investment rates across countries. Construction is the largest component of investment. This paper examines the implications of heterogeneity in construction productivity on cross-country income disparity. We estimate the 10:1 spread in construction productivity among 145 countries in 2005 as a factor of 61.7-fold. Based on a general equilibrium model with input-output linkages, we find that the 10:1 spread in income per capita declines by 45 per cent when the construction productivity gap is eliminated. Sectoral characterization of the aggregate effect of a change in construction productivity shows heterogeneous sectoral contributions to income convergence. Electrical equipment, metals, and transport equipment play stronger roles in transforming the effect of a change in construction productivity to the aggregate level in China compared with other countries.

    We study the impacts of public investment, notably in construction and in R&D on economic growth and of crowding-out effects on private investment. For this purpose, we use Panel Vector Autoregression (PVAR) models and the Generalised Method of Moments (GMM) approach for 40 advanced and emerging countries from 1995 to 2019. Our findings are as follows: i) innovations in public investment have more positive effects on GDP growth and private investment in emerging economies; ii) the positive impulse of public investment on private sector is pronounced and significant in emerging economies; iii) government construction investment has a more positive effect on economic growth in emerging economies; iv) innovations in public construction crowd-out private investment spending in advanced countries; v) emerging economies benefit from public R&D investment; vi) the public investment multiplier of the full sample is 1.67, while it is 0.87 for advanced economies and 2.29 for emerging economies.

    This paper studies the impact of expected transport accessibility improvement on house prices. We identify the effect exploiting a quasi-natural experiment created by the approval and construction of the Ryfast tunnel system in Rogaland, Norway, which shortened the travelling time to the affected municipality from 62 to 24 minutes. Estimates of a repeated sales model in a difference-in-differences framework show that the expectation of improvement in transport accessibility connected with the construction of the tunnel system led to an increase in house prices by 10.1–12.8\% on average. That effect grew as the opening of the tunnel drew closer and was driven by less valuable houses.

    Beschäftigt man sich mit Testungen bezogen auf Wirtschaftswissen und -können sowie die Einschätzung der eigenen Fähigkeiten in der Domäne Wirtschaft wird eines schnell deutlich: Nahezu alle Untersuchungen attestieren Frauen und Mädchen Defizite. Diese werden selten hinterfragt, sondern manifestieren ein ums andere Mal den Status Quo einer defizitorientierten Perspektive auf die Fähigkeiten von Frauen und Mädchen in der Ökonomischen Bildung. Hier setzt diese Arbeit an und strebt danach, die bisherige defizitorientierte Perspektive zu überwinden, indem sie einen konstruktivistischen Blick auf geschlechterdichotome Phänomene in der Ökonomischen Bildung wirft. Dabei wird der Frage nachgegangen, wie Schülerinnen und Schüler sich aktiv Themen der Ökonomischen Bildung im Rahmen von Forschendem Lernen erschließen und welche genderbezogenen Konstrukte dabei zu Tage treten. Diese Erkenntnisse sollen es nicht nur ermöglichen, Rückschlüsse zu einer gendersensiblen Ökonomischen Bildung und der Dekonstruktion von Geschlechterdichotomien zu geben, vielmehr ergeben sich Anregungen, Schülerinnen für Ökonomie zu begeistern und damit bisher ungenutzte Potenziale zu fördern.

    This paper exploits daily infrared images taken from satellites to track economic activity in advanced and emerging countries. We first develop a framework to read, clean, and exploit satellite images. Our algorithm uses the laws of physics (Planck's law) and machine learning to detect the heat produced by cement plants in activity. This allows us to monitor in real-time whether a cement plant is working. Using this information on around 500 plants, we construct a satellite-based index tracking activity. We show that using this satellite index outperforms benchmark models and alternative indicators for nowcasting the production of the cement industry as well as the activity in the construction sector. Comparing across methods, we find neural networks yields significantly more accurate predictions as they allow to exploit the granularity of our daily and plant-level data. Overall, we show that combining satellite images and machine learning allows to track economic activity accurately.

Sie eröffnen den methodischen Zugang zur historischen Alltagspraxis der Menschen. Der folgende Beitrag will am Beispiel einer klassischen Methodenkontroverse des 20. Jahrhunderts, der Erklären-Verstehen-Debatte, zeigen, welche Reichweite Erzählungen als 'Laienkonzepte der 'Welt'' (Habermas) für die Rekonstruktion von sozialer Wirklichkeit haben.'
