    Poetik der Unverständlichkeit liest literarische Schreibweisen der Unverständlichkeit als Ausdruck eines prekär gewordenen Weltverhältnisses. In vier exemplarischen Lektüren wird die Konstellation zwischen Text- und Weltverstehen bei Autoren aus dem 16. bis zum 20. Jahrhundert ausgelotet, wobei sich für jeden Autor eine sprachliche Grundfigur unverständlichen Schreibens bestimmen lässt: Die ruminatio (Fischart), der Vergleich (Hamann), die Frage (Kafka) und die Ellipse (Celan). Ausgehend von den Schreibweisen und ihren Darstellungslogiken werden die tragenden Themen und Problemhorizonte sowie die poetologischen Reflexionen über Unverständlichkeit im jeweiligen Werk untersucht.

    Möglichkeitsdenken und Experimente in der Literatur haben eine lange Tradition – doch werden sie in ihrer aktuellen Bedeutung in der literaturwissenschaftlichen Forschung zum Verhältnis von Experiment und Literatur bis dato nur zögerlich besprochen. Mittels einer Gegenüberstellung zweier Experimentkonzepte werden historisch-epistemologische Unterschiede deutlich, die sich in den Gegenwartsromanen Spieltrieb (2004) von Juli Zeh und Koala (2014) von Lukas Bärfuss nachzeichnen lassen. Verschiedene Komplexitätsphasen von Experimentalanordnungen erweitern und differenzieren die Analyse. Dabei tragen methodische, wissensdiskursive und literaturhistorische Aspekte zu einer neuen und interdisziplinären Forschungsperspektive bei. Possibility thinking and experimentation in literature have a long tradition—yet their current significance in literary studies research on the relationship between experimentation and literature has been discussed only hesitantly to date. By means of a comparison of different concepts of experimentation, historical and epistemological differences become clear, which can be traced in the contemporary novels ‘Spieltrieb’ (2004) by Juli Zeh and ‘Koala’ (2014) by Lukas Bärfuss. Various phases of complexity in experiments expand and add detailed nuances to the analysis. In the process, methodological aspects and those of knowledge discourse and literary history contribute to a new and interdisciplinary research perspective.

    This article is about the Mesopotamian god Nergal and the myth Nergal and Ereškigal. It is an exploration of mythology, because, in the author's view, this myth originates from recurrent themes in origin myths, like the creation and organization of the cosmos and divine society, and power and succession among gods. Cosmogonic myths and the typology of deities related to them exist all around the world, which makes comparison a viable methodology. Equally, considering the specific nature of this kind of myths, several issues of a theoretical nature, encompassing mythology, religion and literature, need to be addressed. The goal of this article is to offer an original reading of the Nergal and Ereškigal poem, by dealing with major issues in the historical study of religions and drawing on comparisons with other myths from Mesopotamia, Ugarit and Greece.

    Politische Gewalt gibt es überall. Aber wie und wieso entsteht sie, und was kann sie verhindern? Dieses Buch befasst sich mit der Vielfalt politischer Gewalt in Westeuropa, Süd- und Südostasien sowie der Vielfalt ihrer Begründungen. Es bietet Einblicke in verschiedene ideologische, strukturelle, soziale und politische Hintergründe, Beziehungen und Ziele von nicht-staatlichen Gewaltakteuren in Asien und Europa. Dabei werden verschiedene disziplinäre und theoretische Ansätze sowie eine Vielzahl an Fallbeispielen vorgestellt. Ziel des Bandes ist es, Phänomene zu vergleichen und vereinfachten, eindimensionalen Erklärungen, warum nicht-staatliche Akteure Gewalt anwenden, komplexere Erklärungsansätze entgegenzusetzen.     This article argues that Paul’s narrative about collective πολίτευμα in heaven (Phil 3:20) constitutes a moment of climactic consolation in the letter to the Philippians. This position is reached through an extended comparison with Seneca’s On Consolation to Mother Helvia (Ad Helviam). It emerges that similar narratives of consolation are constructed in the Ad Helviam and Phil 3:15–21. In both texts, adversity is recognised and rationalised, before it is defied then transcended through rhetorical and cosmological arguments. Ausgehend von den Schreibweisen und ihren Darstellungslogiken werden die tragenden Themen und Problemhorizonte sowie die poetologischen Reflexionen über Unverständlichkeit im jeweiligen Werk untersucht.

    Although the use of rhetoric to interpret NT texts, even Hebrews, is hardly new, here I employ an unfamiliar, and so unused, source of Greco-Roman rhetoric, the progymnasmata (preliminary rhetorical exercises). They provide excellent examples of genres that form the skeleton and substance of the argument in Hebrews. These progymnasmata consisted of twelve to sixteen exercises of increasing difficulty, among which I focus on “comparison” (σύγκρισις) and “encomium” (ἐγκώμιον). Progymnastic rhetoric states that “comparisons” are made out of the “headings” of the “encomium.” Thus, one comparison is in fact two encomia, for example, Jesus and Israelite priests, each figure described according to traditional encomiastic patterns.

    To teach one's students by drawing on information from one's field site is to bring two "homes" into contact with one another: the home of one's classroom with one's students and the home of a field site filled with friends and "fictive family". It means helping two different home communities translate and understand one another, bringing into sharper relief the challenges of translating that teaching - and fieldwork - perpetually entail. Creating an online pedagogical tool based on one's field site brings all of these issues into focus, as one also manages the spatial and temporal variances inherent in many digital humanities projects.

    Wer gerne literarische Texte liest, erfährt viel über soziale und/oder politische Verhältnisse der jeweils zeitgenössischen Gesellschaften, in denen die Autorinnen und Autoren leb(t)en. In manchem Fall könnte Literatur problemlos in ein sozialwissenschaftliches Studium einführende Lehrbuchtexte ersetzen. Will man allerdings die zu einem Themenfeld auffindbare literarische Vielfalt ordnen, kommen nicht nur individuelle Präferenzen bzw. Lesegewohnheiten ins Spiel, sondern es hilft auch eine gewisse Theoretisierung, die - aus der wissenschaftlichen Diskussion des Gegenstandes stammend - den Blick leitet. Für den vorliegenden Beitrag werden literarische Texte, die "Raum" behandeln, miteinander verglichen und kategorisiert. Die Rolle, die Raum in diesen Texten spielt, ist vielfältig - so wie auch die soziologische Betrachtung des gesellschaftlichen Raums inzwischen von verschiedenen, sich gegenseitig beeinflussenden Facetten ausgeht. Diese Vielschichtigkeit bezieht auch zeitliche Aspekt ein. Der Beitrag endet mit einer kommentierten Leseliste wissenschaftlicher Arbeiten zum Themenfeld "Gesellschaft und Raum" und Quellenverweisen für die verarbeiteten Literaturstellen (im Buch mit Textausschnitten einiger Werke).

    Wer das eigene Leben beschreibt, vergleicht sich mit anderen und mit sich selbst: Unter diesem Gesichtspunkt nehmen die vier Wissenschaftler*innen aus unterschiedlichen Disziplinen die Geschichte des autobiographischen Schreibens neu in den Blick. Leitend ist dabei die Erkenntnis, dass in Selbstbeschreibungen nicht ein vermeintlich autonomes Ich im Mittelpunkt steht, sondern ein stets in Beziehung stehendes relationales Selbst. Wie sich solche Individualität durch das Sich-Selbst-Vergleichen auf historisch jeweils unterschiedliche Weise herstellt, wird anhand von Autor*innen wie Petrus Abaelard, Guibert von Nogent, Giovanni di Pagolo Morelli, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Bertha von Suttner, Walter Benjamin, Roland Barthes, Didier Eribon und vielen anderen analysiert.
