    Die Arbeit untersucht Veränderungen in den Schreibmustern bei jungen Erwachsenen (Abiturienten). Materialbasis sind zwei Textkorpora: schulische Texte aus den 1990er Jahren und ein historisches Korpus mit Abiturarbeiten aus einem Zeitraum von 1881-1991. In einem ersten Teil werden textlinguistisch spezifische Merkmale aktueller Texte unter dem Begriff Parlando zusammengefaßt, beschrieben und deren Herausbildung am historischen Textkorpus nachgezeichnet. Der zweite Teil entfaltet sprachtheoretische und sprachgeschichtliche sowie sozialwissenschaftliche und bildungstheoretische Erklärungsmuster für das Phänomen Parlando. Als Ergebnis kann das Textmuster Parlando gedeutet werden als Indiz für einen soziokommunikativen Sprachwandel in der Schriftlichkeit. This is a study of changes in writing patterns displayed by young German adults (secondary school leavers). The study draws on two corpora, one of texts written at school in the 1990s, the other a historical corpus of essays written during the Abitur examination over a period ranging from 1881-1991. In Part One of the book ("Parlando as a Textual Phenomenon"), specific text-linguistic features of present-day texts are grouped under the heading "Parlando", described and their gradual emergence traced in the historical corpus. Part Two ("Looking for Explanations") draws on language theory, language history, sociology and theories of education to develop explanatory dimensions for the Parlando phenomenon. It transpires that it is possible to interpret the "Parlando" text pattern as an indication of a socio-communicative language change in written texts.

    The nine essays in this volume focus on performance and audience reception of oral poetry, inviting us to rethink some key concepts for an understanding of traditional epic poetry. Egbert Bakker examines the epic performer's use of time and tense in recounting a past that is alive. Tackling the question of full-length performance of the monumental Iliad, Andrew Ford considers the extent to which the work was perceived as a coherent whole in the archaic age. John Miles Foley addresses questions about spoken signs and the process of reference in epic discourse, and Ahuvia Kahane studies rhythm as a semantic factor in the Homeric performance. Richard Martin suggests a new range of performance functions for the Homeric simile. And Gregory Nagy establishes the importance of one feature of epic language, the ellipsis. These six essays centered on Homer engage with fundamental issues that are addressed by three essays primarily concerned with medieval epic: those by Franz Bäuml on the concept of fact; by Wulf Oesterreicher on types of orality; and by Ursula Schaefer on written and spoken media. In their Introduction the editors highlight the underlying approach and viewpoints of this collaborative volume. --From publisher's description

    Weshalb ziehen das Komma bei Kant oder das Ausrufezeichen bei Foucault nicht dasselbe Interesse auf sich wie der Gedankenstrich bei Kleist oder die Auslassungspunkte bei Schnitzler? Entgegen der Selbstverständlichkeit literaturwissenschaftlicher Interpretation, der zufolge jedes Zeichen die Sinnkonstruktion eines Textes mitträgt, erfahren Satzzeichen in der philosophischen Auslegung wenig Aufmerksamkeit. Entlang einzelner Beispiele schärfen die Beiträge dieses Bandes den Blick für das philologische Detail und zeigen, wie Satzzeichen nicht nur an der Entfaltung des rhetorischen Repertoires philosophischer Textpraxis konstitutiv beteiligt sind. Questo il quesito posto nell'analisi di un corpus di "scrittura popolare" toscana del '900: una trentina di testi di scriventi toscani con istruzione scolastica elementare. Sullo sfondo teorico della scrittura come sistema e come processo, nonchi della sua acquisizione, l'analisi empirica mira ad individuare i fattori socioculturali e situazionali rilevanti per la competenza scrittoria mediale e per la selezione funzionale alla comunicazione. What factors are to be considered constitutive for competence in spelling, punctuation, and formal written correctness? The study attempts to answer this question with reference to a corpus of 'ordinary' writing (scrittura popolare) from 20th century Tuscany, some thirty texts by Tuscan writers with elementary school education (3-6 years). Based on theories of writing as a system and a process and theoretical knowledge on the acquisition of writing skills, the empirical analysis sets out to distinguish the socio-cultural and situational factors relevant for competence in the use of written language and in the selection of resources appropriate to the communicative aims involved.

Zu diesem Zweck entwickelt die Autorin einen Begriff von Medien, der diese weniger unter dem Aspekt der Informationsvermittlung betrachtet als vielmehr deren transformativen Charakter betont. Exemplarisch wird er an einer zeitgenössischen Konzeption von Schrift vorgeführt, die sich nicht auf die Dimension von verschrifteter Sprache beschränkt, sondern auch logische Notationen oder Computersoftware mit umfasst. Detaillierte Analysen zentraler Arbeiten von Derrida, Wittgenstein und Goodman weisen auf, dass Medien als die nicht hintergehbare Bedingung der Möglichkeit von Sinn- und Bedeutungsgebung anzusehen sind. Die philosophische Behandlung von Medien leitet somit in eine allgemeine Theorie der Medialität über, die die Weisen unserer Erschließung von Wirklichkeit zum Gegenstand hat.

Questo il quesito posto nell'analisi di un corpus di "scrittura popolare" toscana del '900: una trentina di testi di scriventi toscani con istruzione scolastica elementare. Sullo sfondo teorico della scrittura come sistema e come processo, nonchi della sua acquisizione, l'analisi empirica mira ad individuare i fattori socioculturali e situazionali rilevanti per la competenza scrittoria mediale e per la selezione funzionale alla comunicazione. What factors are to be considered constitutive for competence in spelling, punctuation, and formal written correctness? The study attempts to answer this question with reference to a corpus of 'ordinary' writing (scrittura popolare) from 20th century Tuscany, some thirty texts by Tuscan writers with elementary school education (3-6 years). Based on theories of writing as a system and a process and theoretical knowledge on the acquisition of writing skills, the empirical analysis sets out to distinguish the socio-cultural and situational factors relevant for competence in the use of written language and in the selection of resources appropriate to the communicative aims involved.

Die hierbei herangezogene Luzerner Bilderchronik von Diebold Schilling ermöglicht es, Inszenierungen nicht nur in der Vermittlung über die Sprache der Zeitgenossen, sondern auch in einem visuellen Medium zu erfassen. Die vorliegende Arbeit behandelt die kulturelle Praxis im Umgang mit Texten in der spätmittelalterlichen Öffentlichkeit. Gefragt wird danach, wie Schriftstücke in einer vorwiegend mündlichen Gesellschaft öffentlich gemacht, aufbewahrt, beschädigt oder gar zerstört wurden. Die hierbei herangezogene Luzerner Bilderchronik von Diebold Schilling ermöglicht es, Inszenierungen nicht nur in der Vermittlung über die Sprache der Zeitgenossen, sondern auch in einem visuellen Medium zu erfassen. The study examines late medieval society’s cultural practice in dealing with texts, enquiring into how in a principally oral society texts are made public, stored, damaged or even destroyed. Using the Lucerne (Picture) Chronicle of Diebold Schilling allows Rauschert to demonstrate how representations are organised both in the medium of contemporaries’ language and in a visual medium.     Weshalb ziehen das Komma bei Kant oder das Ausrufezeichen bei Foucault nicht dasselbe Interesse auf sich wie der Gedankenstrich bei Kleist oder die Auslassungspunkte bei Schnitzler? Entgegen der Selbstverständlichkeit literaturwissenschaftlicher Interpretation, der zufolge jedes Zeichen die Sinnkonstruktion eines Textes mitträgt, erfahren Satzzeichen in der philosophischen Auslegung wenig Aufmerksamkeit. Entlang einzelner Beispiele schärfen die Beiträge dieses Bandes den Blick für das philologische Detail und zeigen, wie Satzzeichen nicht nur an der Entfaltung des rhetorischen Repertoires philosophischer Textpraxis konstitutiv beteiligt sind. Das aufmerksame Close Reading wird dabei für die philosophische Lektüre überraschend fruchtbar.
