Homme politique à la cour des Seldjoukides mais aussi poète, Husayn ibn 'Ali ibn Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Samad (1061-1121), surnommé Tughra'i, est également l'auteur d'une œuvre alchimique monumentale. Interprète des anciens écrits herméneutiques (grecs, égyptiens, persans ainsi qu'indiens), on reconnaît également en lui un commentateur avisé du corpus alchimique en langue arabe. Jabir ibn Hayyan, précurseur illustre de l'alchimie musulmane, est l'auteur le plus mentionné par Tughra'i, auteur dont il glose par ailleurs abondemment le « k. al-Rahma, le Livre de la miséricorde ». Confronté aux attaques d'Avicenne (m. 1037) contre l'alchimie, il rompit maintes lances avec ce dernier et se fit un devoir de défendre l'authenticité de l'Art. En prenant appui sur les manuscrits de Tughra'i, cette étude dresse la bibliographie critique de son œuvre ; on y découvrira également, outre l'édition et la traduction de la première partie de l'introduction des « Clés de la miséricorde et les secrets de la sagesse », une analyse de la pensée hermétique de l'auteur fondée sur l'intégralité de ses écrits. Des études particulières sont consacrées aux « Haqa'iq al-istishad » (Les Vérités des témoignages), à l'al-Irshad ila al-awlad » (L'orientation des enfants) ainsi qu'aux commentaires que Tughra'i a rédigés du « k. al-Rahma » de Jabir. La traduction et l'analyse de certains récits hermétiques contenus dans les traités de Tughra'i, dont celui de « Salaman wa Absal », constituent l'un des temps forts de ce travail. D'essence spirituelle, l'alchimie tughra'ienne recourt largement à un langage énigmatique présentant plusieurs niveaux de compréhension. Confronted with criticisms of Avicenna (d. 1037) against alchemy, he has made his duty to defend the authenticity of the Art. By leaning on the manuscripts of Tughra'I, this study offers the critical bibliography of his work. It presents also the edition and the translation of the first part of the introduction of the "Keys of the mercy and the secrets of wisdom" as well as an analysis of the alchemical thought of the author based on the integrality of his writings. Particular studies are devoted to "Haqa'iq Al-istishhad" (Truths of the evidences) and to "al-Irshad ila al-awlad" (Orientation of the children) but also to the comments of Tughra'I on Jabir's "k. al-Rahma". The translation and the analysis on some hermetic stories contained in the treatises of Tughra'I, among them that of Salaman wa Absal, constitute one important chapter of this work. Of spiritual nature, tughra'ian alchemy has recourse to a large extent to an enigmatic language on several levels.
