    Das Buch reflektiert die Entwicklung der Erforschung gesprochener Sprache in den letzten 30 Jahren und erarbeitet auf dieser Grundlage eine eigene theoretische Konzeptualisierung des Gegenstandes. Zunächst wird die Spezifik mündlicher Kommunikation und gesprochener Sprache charakterisiert. Dazu werden die Grundbedingungen mündlicher Verständigung herausgearbeitet und in ihrem Einfluss auf die Ausbildung kommunikativer Verfahren und sprachlicher Mittel beschrieben. Der zweite Teil behandelt die methodologische Frage, ob und inwieweit die Untersuchungen gesprochener Sprache spezifische Analyse- und Beschreibungskategorien erfordert. Dabei wird insbesondere das Problem der einheiten in gesprochener Sprache diskutiert. Die empirische Untersuchung und theoretische Modellierung einer bestimmten grammatischen Konstruktion, der Operator-Skopos-Struktur, die in den letzten Jahren der gesprochenen Sprache stark expandiert, stehen im Zentrum der exemplarischen Analysen des Schlussteils

    Mit welchem Ziel schreibt Paulus den römischen Christen von der Sünde? Vor dem Hintergrund griechisch-römischer Argumentationstheorie und jüdisch-hellenistischer Argumentationspraxis untersucht Patrick Bahl in seiner exegetisch-theologiegeschichtlichen Studie die argumentative Funktion des Sündenbegriffs im Römerbrief. Indem er Schritt für Schritt Aufmerksamkeitslenkung, Begründungsstruktur und Logik der Argumentation von Röm 1–8 analysiert, rückt er Paulus als argumentierenden Briefschreiber ins Licht, dessen Argumentation, gemessen an antiken Maßstäben, zielorientiert, strukturiert und durchaus vernünftig ist. Dabei zeigt sich, dass Paulus nicht etwa systematisch-lehrhaft von der Sünde redet, sondern ihr semantisches Potential strategisch dafür nutzt, den römischen Heidenchristen sein Grundanliegen vor Augen zu führen: Da Christus alle, Juden wie Heiden, von der Sünde befreit hat, hat das Gesetz jegliche Bedeutung für sie verloren. What was the Apostle's aim when he wrote to the Christians in Rome about sin? Against the backdrop of Graeco-Roman argumentation theory and Jewish-Hellenistic argumentation practice, Patrick Bahl's exegetical and history of theology study investigates the argumentative purpose of the concept of sin in Romans 1–8. By analyzing step-by-step how the attention of readers is drawn, how the reasoning is structured, and how the logic of the arguments is set out in these chapters, Paul is brought to light as a disputatious writer of letters, whose arguments were targeted, structured and thoroughly reasonable by ancient standards. This reveals that the Apostle does not deal with sin in a pedantically doctrinaire way but uses its sematic potential strategically to bring home to the Roman Gentile Christians his fundamental concern that because Christ freed Jew and Gentile alike from sin, the law no longer has any meaning for them.
