    Extensive research is available on language acquisition and the acquisition of mathematical skills in early childhood. But more recently, research has turned to the question of the influence of specific language aspects on acquisition of mathematical skills. This anthology combines current findings and theories from various disciplines such as (neuro-)psychology, linguistics, didactics and anthropology. Wie hängen sprachliche und mathematische Entwicklung zusammen? Dieser Frage wird derzeit mit großem Interesse aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven nachgegangen.Dieser Sammelband vereint Erkenntnisse aus Psychologie, Neurowissenschaften, Mathematikdidaktik, (Psycho-)Linguistik und Mehrsprachigkeitsforschung. Der interdisziplinäre Ansatz bietet einen umfassenden Blick auf den aktuellen Forschungsstand, dargestellt von national und international renommierten Forschenden.Das Buch gliedert sich in drei Teile. Der erste Teil "Modelle und Theorien" fasst theoretische Überlegungen zusammen und stellt Strukturen für Forschung und Praxis bereit. Dieser Teil dient dazu, den Grundstein für die anderen Teile sowie für zukünftige Forschung zu legen. Der zweite Teil "Kindergartenalter" sowie der dritte Teil "Grundschulalter" decken empirische Befunde über die Korrelation zwischen Sprache und mathematischem Lernen in der jeweiligen Altersgruppe ab. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt hierbei auf dem Aspekt der Mehrsprachigkeit.Damit bietet dieser Sammelband eine große Bandbreite fachspezifischen Wissens für Bildungswissenschaftler*innen, Lehramtsstudierende, Psycholog*innen und Forschende zur Mehrsprachigkeit.

Granted the extraordinary opportunity to sail around the world as part of Captain James Cook's fabled crew, Forster touched icebergs, walked the beaches of Tahiti, visited far-flung foreign nations, lived with purported cannibals, and crossed oceans and the equator. Forster recounted the journey in his 1777 book A Voyage Round the World, a work of travel and science that not only established Forster as one of the most accomplished stylists of the time-and led some to credit him as the inventor of the literary travel narrative-but also influenced other German trailblazers of scientific and literary writing, most notably Alexander von Humboldt. A superb essayist, Forster made lasting contributions to our scientific-and especially botanical and ornithological-knowledge of the South Seas. Having witnessed more egalitarian societies in the southern hemisphere, Forster returned after more than three years at sea to a monarchist Europe entering the era of revolution. When, following the French Revolution of 1789, French forces occupied the German city of Mainz, Forster became a leading political actor in the founding of the Republic of Mainz-the first democratic state on German soil. In an age of Kantian reason, Forster privileged experience. He claimed a deep connection between nature and reason, nature and politics, nature and revolution. His politics was radical in its understanding of revolution as a natural phenomenon, and in this often overlooked way his many facets-as voyager, naturalist, and revolutionary-were intertwined. Yet, in the constellation of the Enlightenment's trailblazing naturalists, scientists, political thinkers, and writers, Forster's star remains relatively dim today: the Republic of Mainz was crushed, and Forster died in exile in Paris. This book is the source of illumination that Forster's journey so greatly deserves.     For twenty years, the renowned philosopher of science Sandra Harding has argued that science and technology studies, postcolonial studies, and feminist critique must inform one another. In The Postcolonial Science and Technology Studies Reader, Harding puts those fields in critical conversation, assembling the anthology that she has long wanted for classroom use. In classic and recent essays, international scholars from a range of disciplines think through a broad array of science and technology philosophies and practices. The contributors reevaluate conventional accounts of the West's scientific and technological projects in the past and present, rethink the strengths and limitations of non-Western societies' knowledge traditions, and assess the legacies of colonialism and imperialism.     For twenty years, the renowned philosopher of science Sandra Harding has argued that science and technology studies, postcolonial studies, and feminist critique must inform one another. In The Postcolonial Science and Technology Studies Reader, Harding puts those fields in critical conversation, assembling the anthology that she has long wanted for classroom use. In classic and recent essays, international scholars from a range of disciplines think through a broad array of science and technology philosophies and practices. The contributors reevaluate conventional accounts of the West's scientific and technological projects in the past and present, rethink the strengths and limitations of non-Western societies' knowledge traditions, and assess the legacies of colonialism and imperialism. The collection concludes with forward-looking essays, which explore strategies for cultivating new visions of a multicultural, democratic world of sciences and for turning those visions into realities. Feminist science and technology concerns run throughout the reader and are the focus of several essays.
