    Dieser Band trägt zu einer Genealogie des theoretischen Moments bei, der das intellektuelle Feld in Frankreich in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts erfasst. Mit sprachwissenschaftlichen Instrumenten der neueren französischen Diskursanalyse wird gezeigt, auf welche Weise theoretische Texte (etwa von Derrida und Foucault) auf ihre Entstehungs- und Rezeptionskontexte verweisen und das vielfältige Wissen ihrer Leser mobilisieren. Anhand von ausgewählten Textausschnitten analysiert die Studie das vielschichtige Sprechgewirr eines Diskurses, in dem es nicht nur um große Ideen geht. Es entsteht die Skizze einer Wissenssoziologie nach dem Strukturalismus.

Vorstellungen von Absenz wirken in der Gegenwart auf breiter Basis – auch in der Literatur. Doch wie sind diese medial vermittelt? Geht man davon aus, dass Absenz-Phänomene sich nicht in einer primordialen Leere ereignen, sondern dass ihnen eher mit Vorstellungen vom Unbestimmten, Unverfügbaren und Möglichen beizukommen ist, rücken Verräumlichungsformen und -strategien in den Fokus, die bewegungslogisch zu erklären sind. Die Studie führt raumtheoretische Ansätze unter einer differenztheoretischen Perspektive mit einem Konzept von Virtualität zusammen, um literarische Verfahren der Verräumlichung von Absenz in Erzähltexten von Thomas Bernhard und Christoph Ransmayr zu untersuchen.

Sie ist die erste in deutscher Sprache vorgelegte Untersuchung zu Richirs Versuch einer Neugründung der Phänomenologie. Diese Neugründung nimmt zum einen ihren Ausgang bei der Phänomenalität als solcher, von welcher aus die Einheit und der Gegenstandsbezug des Phänomens durch einen Schematismus der Phänomenalisierung transzendental verständlich gemacht werden; zum anderen führt diese Umgestaltung der phänomenologischen Architektonik zu einer fundamentalen Kritik der phänomenologischen Eidetik, an deren Stelle eine Phänomenologie der symbolischen Stiftung tritt. In Richirs mittlerer Schaffensperiode entsteht aus diesem Bezug von phänomenologischem und symbolischen Feld eine Phänomenologie der Sinnbildung, deren Ziel es ist, das genetische „Abenteuer“ des Sinns zu ergründen. Der Sinn ist dabei einer doppelten Gefahr ausgesetzt: einerseits sich in der Proteusartigkeit und Flüchtigkeit der aufkommenden Sinnregungen zu verlieren; andererseits sich im symbolischen Gestell der Stiftungen zu entfremden. Die These der vorliegenden Studie lautet, dass dieses doppelte Schweben der Sinnbildung in der Verschränkung verschiedener Zeitschematismen gründet. Das klassische immanente und prä-immanente Zeitbewusstsein verschränkt sich mit der Proto-Zeitigung und Proto- Räumlichung des Schematismus der Phänomenalisierung und den verborgenen Schematisierungen des Symbolischen. Die Integration der symbolischen Zeitkategorien – Überstürzung, Wiederholung und Nachträglichkeit als Zeitigungsweisen des Nicht-Erscheinens – in die Phänomenologie führt zu einer enormen Erweiterung der Dialog- und Anschlussfähigkeit derselben. Die vorliegende Untersuchung versucht die theoretischen Kontexte, die Richirs Umgestaltung der phänomenologischen Architektonik motivieren, zu versammeln. Neben klassischen phänomenologischen Autoren wie Husserl, Heidegger und Merleau-Ponty spielen Denker wie Kant, Freud, Lacan und Derrida dabei eine zentrale Rolle.".

This book explores how phenomenological ideas about embodiment, perception, and lived experience are discussed within disability studies, critical race theory, and queer studies. Building on these disciplines, it offers readings of memoirs and novels that address the consequences of stigmatization and the bodily dimensions of social differences. The texts include Robert F. Murphy’s The Body Silent, Simi Linton’s My Body Politic, Rod Michalko’s The Two-in-One: Walking with Smokie, Walking with Blindness, three memoirs by Stephen Kuusisto, Vincent O. Carter’s The Bern Book, as well as two novels, Matthew Griffin’s Hide and Armistead Maupin’s Maybe the Moon. All of the texts discussed in this book negotiate the significance of bodily and perceptual habits, the influence of language and culture on embodiment, the importance of relationality and community, the severe effects of misrecognition, and the possibilities of emancipation and social recognition. Hence, they are read as pioneering contributions to the emerging field of critical phenomenology. Simon Dickel is Professor of Gender and Diversity Studies at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany. He is the author of Black/Gay: The Harlem Renaissance, the Protest Era, and Constructions of Black Gay Identity in the 1980s and 90s (2011).

Joseph Darlington begins with Brooke-Rose’s first novels written in the late 1950s of social satire, studies her experimental phase of writing and finally illuminates her unique approach to autobiography, arguing for reevaluating this interdisciplinary author and her contribution to poststructuralism, life writing and post-war literature. Joseph Darlington is a writer and academic from Manchester, UK. He is programme leader for the animation degree at Futureworks Media School, and is the author of British Terrorist Novels of the 1970s (Palgrave Macmillan 2018) and co-editor of the Manchester Review of Books. He was awarded a Harry Ransom Fellowship for his work on Brooke-Rose in 2012, and has published a number of research papers exploring her work.

Starting with Orpheus, the book refreshes the myth of the poet as mythmaker, examining how myths of “self” and “nation” are regenerated for the twenty-first century and how persons-as-myths are made in community through coteries of artists and beyond. Duncan Bruce Hose’s critical vocabulary, with its nucleus of mythos, searches the edges of phenomenal enquiry, closing in on the work of “glamour”, “aura”, “charm”, “possession”, “phantasm”, the “daemonic”, and the logic of haunting in the continuing being of these three poets as “charismatic animals”.

    Introduction -- Textual pre-figuration -- Ontological pre-figuration -- How to reassemble reading. The present book deals with Sarah Kane’s dramatic text Cleansed to show a specific negotiation of violence, pain, life and death – one that is not necessarily causal or dichotomous. Instead, a new mode of reading, based on Bruno Latour’s take on Actor-Network-Theory, helps to make fictional worlds simultaneously intelligible in a mediate and in an immediate way. This results in an unprecedented understanding of how language can influence and modify ontological configurations. Eventually, this allows for a re-evaluation of political problems that occur in the 20th and 21st century. About the author Eric Baudner studied English and German studies at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. The present work was finished with the help of a scholarship within the DFG post graduate program “Materiality and Production”.

Derrida and Textual Animality: For a Zoogrammatology of Literature analyses what has come to be known, in the Humanities, as ‘the question of the animal’, in relation to literary texts. Rodolfo Piskorski intervenes in the current debate regarding the non-human and its representation in literature, resisting popular materialist methodological approaches in the field by revisiting and revitalising the post-structuralist thought of Derrida and the ‘linguistic turn’. The book focuses on Derrida’s early work in order to frame deconstructive approaches to literature as necessary for a theory and practice of literary criticism that addresses the question of the animal, arguing that texts are like animals, and animals are like texts. While Derrida’s late writings have been embraced by animal studies scholars due to its overt focus on animality, ethics, and the non-human, Piskorski demonstrates the additional value of these early Derridean texts for the field of literary animal studies by proposing detailed zoogrammatological readings of texts by Freud, Clarice Lispector, Ted Hughes, and Darren Aronofsky, while in dialogue with thinkers such as Butler, Kristeva, Genette, Deleuze and Guattari, and Attridge.

This Pivot studies the influence of Julia Kristeva’s work on American literary and film studies. Chapters consider this influence via such innovative approaches as Hortense Spillers’s and Jack Halberstam’s to Paule Marshall’s fiction and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, respectively. The book also considers how critics in the United States receive Kristeva’s work on French feminism, semiotics, and psychoanalytic writing in complex, controversial ways, especially on the question of marginalized populations. Examples include Kelly Oliver and Benigno Trigo on Orson Welles’s The Lady from Shanghai and Touch of Evil as well as Frances Restuccia on David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive. Carol Mastrangelo Bové also examines Kristeva’s take on the US in her essays and fiction, which provide a vital part of the dialogue with American critics. This book explores how phenomenological ideas about embodiment, perception, and lived experience are discussed within disability studies, critical race theory, and queer studies. Building on these disciplines, it offers readings of memoirs and novels that address the consequences of stigmatization and the bodily dimensions of social differences. The texts include Robert F. Murphy’s The Body Silent, Simi Linton’s My Body Politic, Rod Michalko’s The Two-in-One: Walking with Smokie, Walking with Blindness, three memoirs by Stephen Kuusisto, Vincent O. Carter’s The Bern Book, as well as two novels, Matthew Griffin’s Hide and Armistead Maupin’s Maybe the Moon. All of the texts discussed in this book negotiate the significance of bodily and perceptual habits, the influence of language and culture on embodiment, the importance of relationality and community, the severe effects of misrecognition, and the possibilities of emancipation and social recognition. Hence, they are read as pioneering contributions to the emerging field of critical phenomenology. Simon Dickel is Professor of Gender and Diversity Studies at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany. He is the author of Black/Gay: The Harlem Renaissance, the Protest Era, and Constructions of Black Gay Identity in the 1980s and 90s (2011).

Anhand der Arbeiten von Butler, Foucault und Marx rekonstruiert Hanna Meißner am Beispiel der Geschlechterdifferenz unterschiedliche strukturelle Dimensionen einer historischen Konstellation, in der Autonomie als Verleugnung der Abhängigkeit eine Bedingung subjektiver Handlungsfähigkeit darstellt. Zugleich wird damit eine Kritikstrategie formuliert, die an den Dynamiken dieser spezifischen Form ansetzt und Handlungsfähigkeit als historisch bedingte Möglichkeit der Subjekte begreift, sich zu den Verhältnissen verhalten zu können.

Die Thesen von Michel Foucault, Roland Barthes und Jacques Derrida stellen das Schreiben vor Probleme, die in der Versuchsanordnung von Literatur und Pop sichtbar werden. Pop-Texte streben nach Unmittelbarkeit, Gegenwart, Leben und wissen zugleich um die fundamentale Nachträglichkeit der Schrift.     Während insbesondere in der anglo-amerikanischen Literaturtheorie poststrukturalistische Theoriefiguren eine zentrale Rolle übernommen haben, zeigt sich die soziologische Theorie erstaunlich resistent ihnen gegenüber. Dies verwundert nicht, wenn man bedenkt, dass die Soziologie ein Projekt der Moderne ist und auf deren Leitunterscheidungen beruht. Der Band zeigt, dass sich die vielfältigen 'Poststrukturalismen' für eine Dekonstruktion soziologischer Unterscheidungen eignen und so neue theoretische Interventionen ermöglichen: z.B. Diskurs als soziologischer Grundbegriff, die Dezentrierung des Subjekts und die Rolle von Rhetorik für die Konstitution des Sozialen.
