    Introduction: skin flicks -- Behind closed doors: neo-Victorian pornographies -- I want to suck your ... : fluids and fluidity in Dracula porn -- I'm grown up now: female sexual authorship and coming of age in pornographic adaptations of Lewis Carroll's Alice books -- Radically both: transformation and crisis in Jekyll and Hyde porn -- Strange legacies of thought and passion: technologies of the flesh and the queering effect of Dorian Gray -- Conclusion: fueling the lamps of sexual imagination "While pornographic film asserts itself as the rebellious cousin to the literary and cinematic canon, porn nonetheless relies on a particular 'Victorianness' in generating eroticism--a Gothic Victorianness that is monstrous and restrained, repressed but also perverse, static but also transformative, and preoccupied by gender and sexuality in both regressive and progressive ways. Pornographic films enthusiastically expose the perceived hypocrisy of this Victorianness, rhetorically equating it with mainstream, legitimate culture, as a way of staging pornography's alleged sexual authenticity and transgressive nature. By analyzing pornographic neo-Victorian adaptations of nineteenth century pornographic literature, Lewis Carroll's Alice books, Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Bram Stoker's Dracula, Laura Helen Marks argues that the rupture and rearticulation of social and corporeal propriety constitutes pornographic rhetoric. The predominantly American pornographic stories covered in the project appropriate canonical British icons as a method to refute the Old World framed as sexually repressed, yet hypocritical. In the process, these texts establish a postmodern American sexual identity framed as sexually liberated and culturally savvy. Porn adaptations expose the implicit pornographic aspects of 'legitimate' culture while also revealing the extent to which 'high' and 'low' genres rely on each other for self-definition and the attempted stabilization of the gendered sexual subject"--

    Inhaltsangabe: Widerlich, abstoßend, ekelhaft oder reizvoll, sinnlich, stimulierend? Nichts scheint die Gemüter - auf die eine oder andere Weise - mehr zu erregen als das Thema Pornografie. Ob Literatur, Fotografie, Internet, Bildende Kunst: Das Genre findet sich in allen medialen Ausdrucksformen. Sex sells und Porno geht immer. Geht Porno wirklich immer? Das Buch soll dazu Antworten geben und konzentriert sich auf die filmische Variante der Pornografie. Vor dem Hintergrund der Cultural Studies wagt die Untersuchung den Brückenschlag von den 1970er Jahren bis in die Gegenwart. Noch vor drei Jahrzehnten galt Pornografie, insbesondere der pornografische Film, als Politikum. Amerikanische Frauenverbände riefen die Parole "Pornografie ist die Theorie, Vergewaltigung die Praxis" aus. Als die Anti-Porno-Welle Deutschland erreichte, fanden sich Pornogegner aller politischer Couleur unter der von EMMA-Herausgeberin Alice Schwarzer ins Rollen gebrachte PorNO-Kampagne zusammen. Die Zeit der differenzierten Betrachtungsmöglichkeiten war vorbei. Und heute? Im Buch werden die Diskurse der vergangenen Jahre und der Stellenwert des Segmentes Pornografie in der Gegenwart nachgezeichnet. Die vielbeschworene Über-Sexualisierung der Gesellschaft und ihrer Medien legt die Vorstellung einer breiten Akzeptanz in der Populärkultur nahe. Aber ist dem wirklich so oder ist dies eine theoretisch geführte Diskussion innerhalb einer kleinen Gruppe von Meinungsmachern? Die Untersuchung lässt die Rezipienten selbst zu Wort kommen: Im Rahmen einer qualitativen Untersuchung wurden vier Frauen und vier Männer zwischen 30 und 40 Jahren am Beispiel eines pornografischen Films nach ihrer Lesart, ihrem Wissen um - historische - Diskurse sowie ihrem individuellen Rollenverständnis befragt. Die Auswertung ergibt ein aktuelles Profil der Thirtysomethings und ihrem Verhältnis zu Pornografie - Mediennutzung - Geschlechterverhältnis. Das Buch soll verstanden werden als Beitrag zu einer weniger "aus dem Bauch heraus" diskutierten Thematik. Vielmehr ist die vorliegende Ausführung als Ergänzung der wenigen wissenschaftlich fundierten Analysen zum Thema Rezipientenforschung und Pornografie gedacht.

Representing Kink raises awareness about non-normative texts and erotic practices and desires. It defines 'kink' broadly, encompassing a range of 'inappropriate' texts and understanding it in frequent reference to non-normative erotic fantasies and experiences. Kink is treated as both a set of practices as well as a category of texts at the nexus of subject and form. In addition to canonical texts that take up erotic and marginalized themes, the collection also studies forms that are themselves fringe and feature kink: taboo literature, self-published erotica, SM narratives, fan fiction, role-playing games, and other disavowed texts. The purpose of this study is to focus attention on the margins of an already marginalized subject in order to highlight the extent to which non-normative textuality and eroticism both shape and are shaped by culture and context. This book advocates for conversations about kinky texts that transcend dichotomous frameworks of good and bad, and normal and deviant, thinking instead in new, theoretically rigorous, and flexible directions
