    Gentrifizierung ist ein global verbreiteter und kontrovers diskutierter urbaner Prozess, der auch seinen Niederschlag in der deutschsprachigen Gegenwartsliteratur gefunden hat. Diese Studie untersucht die literarische Verarbeitung der Gentrifizierung in Berlin nach 2000 anhand von ausgewählten Romanen von Aljoscha Brell, Ulrich Peltzer, Jan Peter Bremer und Annett Gröschner. Mithilfe eines interdisziplinären theoretischen Rahmens, der narratologische Aspekte mit soziologischen kombiniert, arbeitet die Untersuchung heraus, wie der Wettbewerb um den urbanen Raum aus der Figurenperspektive imaginiert und verhandelt wird. Die Analyse zeigt, wie Machtverhältnisse zwischen sozialen Gruppen sich in den zum Teil standardisierten Figurenkonstellationen der untersuchten ‹Gentrifiktionen› manifestieren.

Notwithstanding the diversity of empirical material and theoretical frameworks, the chapters suggest innovative tools for common key issues: dialogue with the cultural Other, the appropriation of space, and personality. Human embodiment and ethical aspects of representing and regulating cultural practices are a major focus through much of the volume.     Tanzania has been considered a model for development, peace, and stability despite the arrival of refugees from neighboring countries and the potential tensions related to climate change. Although it has accessed the rank of middleincome country, Tanzania still faces several challenges, particularly in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The book aims at analyzing these challenges as well as the country’s successes through a multi-disciplinary approach considering economic perspectives as well as conflict prevention, dialogue integration, climate change adaptation, forests’ protection, and social perspectives – especially relating to women and girls. The current Covid situation has shaken the whole world and raised many questions on how the different regions and countries could adapt and develop resilience strategies in an uncertain and ever-changing context. Therefore, the book is not only about Tanzania but also about what we can learn from the research on Tanzania in terms of vulnerabilities and resilience strategies. This book is an outlook of International Development Challenges. This book is co-funded by the European Union in the framework of the project Pilot 4 Research and Dialogue.

    In diesem Open-Access-Sammelband geht es um das preisgekrönte Projekt UnVergessen, in dessen Verlauf Studierende sprachliche Unterstützung für pflegebedürftige Immigrant*innen in Form von regelmäßigen Besuchen leisten. Deutschland gilt als Einwanderungsland, durch den demographischen Wandel wächst die Anzahl älterer und damit auch pflegebedürftiger Menschen, deren Erstsprache nicht Deutsch ist. Im Alter kann es bei mehrsprachigen Personen zu sprachlichen Ausdrucksschwierigkeiten, v.a. in der später erworbenen Sprache kommen, denen in Pflegeheimen nicht zwangsläufig begegnet werden kann. Eine Folge dessen ist eine zunehmende sprachliche, kulturelle und soziale Isolierung dieser Pflegebedürftigen. Die Beiträge widmen sich dieser Personengruppe und bieten Einblicke in ein besonderes Studienprojekt, das an der Schnittstelle von Forschung und sozialem Engagement für Sichtbarkeit sorgen soll.

    Metropolis, Gotham City, Mega-City One, Panem’s Capitol, the Sprawl, Caprica City—American (and Americanized) urban environments have always been a part of the fantastic imagination. Fantastic Cities: American Urban Spaces in Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror focuses on the American city as a fantastic geography constrained neither by media nor rigid genre boundaries. Fantastic Cities builds on a mix of theoretical and methodological tools that are drawn from criticism of the fantastic, media studies, cultural studies, American studies, and urban studies.Contributors explore cultural media across many platforms such as Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, the Arkham Asylum video games, the 1935 movie serial The Phantom Empire, Kim Stanley Robinson’s fiction, Colson Whitehead’s novel Zone One, the vampire films Only Lovers Left Alive and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Paolo Bacigalupi’s novel The Water Knife, some of Kenny Scharf’s videos, and Samuel Delany’s classic Dhalgren. Together, the contributions in Fantastic Cities demonstrate that the fantastic is able to "real-ize" that which is normally confined to the abstract, metaphorical, and/or subjective.     This open access volume offers original essays on how motherhood and mothering are represented in contemporary fiction and life writing across several national contexts. Providing a broad range of perspectives in terms of geopolitical places, thematic concerns, and theoretical and interdisciplinary approaches, it demonstrates the significance of literary narratives for understanding and critiquing motherhood and mothering as social phenomena and subjective experiences. The chapters contextualize motherhood and mothering in terms of their particular national and cultural location and analyze narratives about mothers who are firmly placed in one national context, as well as those who are in “in-between” positions due to migrant experiences. The contributions foreground and link together the themes central to the volume: embodied experience and maternal embodiment; notions of what is “normal” or natural (or not) about motherhood; maternal health and illness; mother-daughter relations; maternality and memory; and the (im)possibilities of giving voice to the mother. They raise questions about how motherhood and mothering are marked by absence and/or presence, as well as by profound ambivalences
