Die im Spätmittelalter überaus beliebten Dichtungen über Wolfdietrich gelten in der Forschung als typisch nachklassische Adaptionen mittelalterlicher Erzählstoffe von geringer ästhetischer Qualität. Die Dichtungen zeigen sich im Übermaß handlungsfixiert und präsentieren die unterschiedlichsten Abenteuer. Die Autorin fragt nach den möglichen Funktionen und Ursachen für ein derart "wildes" Erzählen und erschließt in einer vergleichenden Untersuchung der einzelnen Fassungen eine eigene Poetologie der Texte. Sie versteht den Handlungsaufbau der Wolfdietriche mit den zahlreichen parallel geführten und teilweise widersprechenden Handlungssträngen nicht als poetische Fehlleistung, sondern als literarisches Programm. Durch Neukombination und Montage von tradierten und bewährten Schemata und ihrer spielerischen Variation wird eine Erzählstruktur geschaffen, die mehrere sinntragende Handlungsstränge miteinander verbindet. Dabei werden die in den traditionellen Erzählstrategien bereitgestellten Verständigungsmuster dynamisiert und in der Erprobung durch andere, variierende Konstellationen umbesetzt und erneuert. Der aus dieser Montagetechnik resultierende hybride Charakter der Dichtungen bietet vielfältige Lektüreangebote, worin auch der Erfolg der Texte über einen langen Zeitraum begründet liegt.

Conceived as a necessary reconsideration of the pristine "elegiac question" in Ovid’s Metamorphoses, this book intends to offer an analysis of the function of elegiac discourse within Ovid’s magnum opus from the perspective of metapoetics. To that end, the author undertakes, in the first section, a close re-reading of some relevant passages of Latin love elegy. From a prism that takes into account the characteristically elegiac multivocality, the genre reveals itself as an agonistic discourse in which the poet dramatises his metaliterary power-relation with the puella, who is unveiled as the synthesis of the distinct sub-products of his poetic activity. Thereupon, the author proceeds to scrutinise how elegiac elements are assimilated and transformed as they become integrated within the framework of Ovid’s poem of changing forms. Far from being a mere stylistic ornament, the presence of an elegiac register in many erotic passages tells us about Ovid’s stance towards love as a metapoetic trope. By reworking elegiac tradition to the point of transforming it into a novum corpus, the poet ultimately substantiates the mutability of generic categories.

This volume deals with different attempts undertaken during the Italian Renaissance to define the nature of the 'lyrical' and of individual lyrical forms (including sonnets, epigrams, canzone, ballads, madrigals, and elegies). It begins with an introductory outline of the fundamental dilemma of the era, when an attempt was made to transform the diverse traditions of lyrical writing and the various theoretical options in the literary theory of the cinquecento into a coherent system of poetics. Subsequently, the first main chapter details the different systematic approaches, influenced predominantly by a reading of Aristotelian poetics, attempted by G.G. Trissino, I.C. Scaliger, A.S. Minturno, P. Torellis, and T. Tasso. The second main chapter provides an extensive analysis of contemporary theories about the specific lyrical forms listed above. Overall, this study reveals that lyrical theory in the cinquecento remained a precarious territory: a unitary theory of poetics does not emerge, but instead, we must accept a plurality of possible proposals for a lyrical theory. Der Figurentyp der unbelebten Frau aus Heines Prosatexten der 1820er/30er Jahre ist höchst rätselhaft. Er wird hier poetologisch entschlüsselt und als Sinnbild für Heines Zwischenstellung zwischen den diametralen ästhetischen Paradigmen der ,alten' und der ,neuen' Kunst gelesen.Der Typus der Frau, die mehr Kunst als Wirklichkeit und mehr tot als lebendig ist, ist eng mit den zeitgenössischen ästhetischen Diskursen verwoben und lässt diverse intertextuelle literarische sowie kulturgeschichtliche Bezüge sichtbar werden.Für die genaue Lektüre der ausgewählten Texte wird ein kulturwissenschaftlicher Ansatz gewählt, um die verschiedenen Aspekte der besonderen Schwellenposition herauszuarbeiten, die die Texte einnehmen. Den Theoriehorizont für die Konzeptionierung des ,Übergangs' liefern ritual- und performativitätsästhetische Überlegungen. Die paradoxale Struktur der kunsttheoretischen Gegenüberstellung von ,Tat' und ,Kunst' lässt sich über eine systemtheoretische Lesart als produktiver Bewegungsprozess begreifen, den die Texte nicht nur darstellen, sondern zudem vollziehen. The numerous mysterious female characters who wander through Heine’s prose of the 1820s and 30s, belonging more to the sphere of art than reality, can be used to read the implicit poetics of those texts. This poetics is a movement of transition between "old" and "new" art. This study makes a contribution to our understanding of Heine’s modernity by conceptualizing transition as an element of reflection.

Die Metapher «Affektökonomie» hat Hochkonjunktur in der aktuellen Theoriebildung. Das Kompositum ist indessen problematisch, führt es doch zwei sich widerstrebende Begriffe zusammen: den Affekt, der sich qua emotionalem Grundimpuls willkürlich jeder Herrschaft widersetzt und die Ökonomie, die für das gesetzmäßige Haushalten steht. Die Theorie-Metapher Affektökonomie verdeckt also ihre grundlegende Paradoxie: die Beiträge hinterfragen deshalb die theoretische und metaphorologische Bedingtheit und die Grenzen dieser Konstellation. Dies ist umso wichtiger, als es sich bei der Affektökonomie um eine Leitmetapher für die Funktion von Literatur handelt, die im Zusammenspiel mit dem modernen, politischökonomischen Regime entsteht. These ist, dass ökonomische Strukturen in Texten affektiv besetzt und erzählerisch spekulativ hintertrieben werden. Gefragt wird nach einer anderen Poetik der ästhetischen Moderne, die sich nicht von der großen politischen Revolution von 1789 aus schreibt, sondern von jenem Wissenstransfer um 1800 aus, der die antike Haushaltungslehre im Zeichen der Metapher neubestimmt: und dies nicht nur im Sinne von Sachverhalten und Gegenständen, sondern vor allem auch mit Blick auf die persönlich-affektiven Beziehungen.

Erstmals kann das gesamte theoretische wie poetische Spektrum dieses Autors gewürdigt werden, der im Nachdenken über die Aporien und Paradoxien des 20. Jahrhunderts nie zu einer geschlossenen Systematik kommen wollte. Einzelne Arbeiten werden ebenso interpretiert wie ganze Werkgruppen; der Schriftsteller wird als Literaturkritiker vorgestellt, in seinem Umgang mit visueller Dichtung und Comics, in seinem Verhältnis zu avancierten Entwürfen von Zeitgenossen wie Max Bense, Ernst Jandl und Uwe Johnson. Eine biografische Erinnerung Ida Heißenbüttels an die schriftstellerischen Anfänge ihres Mannes leitet den Band ein.

Einem poetisch gedachten Bauen stehen dabei Begriffe nahe wie jene des Zuhörens oder der In-Werk-Setzung. Jörn Köppler stellt vor dem Hintergrund der philosophischen Entwicklung des poetischen Denkens dar, wie sich in individuellen Werken die Konzeption eines poetisch aufgefassten Bauens entfaltete und welche Perspektiven sich daraus für die Architektur der Gegenwart ableiten ließen. On one hand, Jörn Köppler imagines how the notion of a poetically conceived architecture develops from poetic thinking. On the other hand, he describes how the notion of a poetics of architecture has room to evolve as the antithesis of an economically and technically oriented present.

One of the striking features of »Faust II« is the way Goethe has incorporated a multiplicity of knowledge elements into this work of his old age. The study examines the function of this abundance of allusions, coining the term 'archival poetology' to designate the process of creative alienation and knowledge acquisition involved. In so doing, it concentrates on three aspects. First it relates Goethe's approach to the history of knowledge and science at the time. Subsequently it inquires into the procedure employed in poeticizing the knowledge referred to, and finally it enlarges on the poetological function of this knowledge. Zu den Eigentümlichkeiten des »Faust II« gehört es, dass Goethe in dieses Alterswerk eine Vielzahl von Wissenselementen eingearbeitet hat. Die Studie untersucht die Funktion dieser Anspielungsfülle unter dem Stichwort der 'Archivpoetik' als ein Verfahren kreativer Verfremdung und Aneignung des Wissens, indem sie drei Aspekte berücksichtigt: Erstens stellt sie Goethes Verfahren in einen Bezug zur Wissen(schaft)sgeschichte der Epoche. Zweitens fragt sie nach den Verfahren der Poetisierung des zitierten Wissens, um schließlich drittens dessen poetologische Funktion aufzudecken.

Was ist die Schönheit der Literatur? Worin unterscheidet sie sich von anderen Formen des Schönen? Dieses in der europäischen Poetik und Kunsttheorie immer wieder aufgeworfene Problem verfolgt die Studie erstmals im größeren Zusammenhang von der Antike bis ins 20. Jahrhundert. In der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Schönen, so zeigt sich, entdeckt und reflektiert die Literaturästhetik auf besondere Weise die Eigenart des literarischen Mediums, die spezifische Materialität und die Darstellungsleistungen der Literatur, aber nicht zuletzt auch das, was sich sprachlicher Vermittlung entzieht. What makes a literary work of art beautiful? What distinguishes this kind of beauty from others? In Europe, this problem has been repeatedly addressed in poetology and art theory. The present study is the first to trace the ramifications of the problem in a broader context, extending from antiquity to the 20th century. The conclusion is that in its engagement with beauty, literary esthetics takes an approach of its own to the identification of and reflection upon the nature of literature as a medium and the specific materiality and expository potential of literature, homing in not least on those things that defy communication by means of the written word. This volume deals with different attempts undertaken during the Italian Renaissance to define the nature of the 'lyrical' and of individual lyrical forms (including sonnets, epigrams, canzone, ballads, madrigals, and elegies). It begins with an introductory outline of the fundamental dilemma of the era, when an attempt was made to transform the diverse traditions of lyrical writing and the various theoretical options in the literary theory of the cinquecento into a coherent system of poetics. Subsequently, the first main chapter details the different systematic approaches, influenced predominantly by a reading of Aristotelian poetics, attempted by G.G. Trissino, I.C. Scaliger, A.S. Minturno, P. Torellis, and T. Tasso. The second main chapter provides an extensive analysis of contemporary theories about the specific lyrical forms listed above. Overall, this study reveals that lyrical theory in the cinquecento remained a precarious territory: a unitary theory of poetics does not emerge, but instead, we must accept a plurality of possible proposals for a lyrical theory. This study traces how calls for poetic legitimations of community led particular eighteenth-century epics to explore an originary incompleteness of political power and its narrative legitimations. Die Jahre um 1700 sind durch einen bedeutenden Aufschwung der Kantatenproduktion insbesondere im deutschsprachigen Raum gekennzeichnet. Innerhalb weniger Jahre setzt sich die Kantate italienischen Stils mit ihrem typischen Wechsel von Da-capo-Arie und Rezitativ nicht nur als musikalische Form durch. Sie beherrscht auch einen Teil der Poetik und findet Aufnahme in eine Reihe sozialer Handlungsfelder, vom höfischen Zeremoniell bis zum protestantischen Gottesdienst. Offenbar war die Kantate gerade durch ihre kombinatorische Struktur, ihre musikalische Variationsbreite sowie ihre Affektsättigung geeignet, in unterschiedlichsten Kontexten und Funktionen als Katalysator zu wirken: als ein musikalisch-literarisches Modell, das bei gleichbleibender Grundstruktur und variabler Anwendbarkeit funktionale und semantische Wandlungen in besonderem Maße befördern und beschleunigen konnte. Die Kantatenform erweist sich so als wesentliches Dynamisierungsmoment bei den ästhetischen wie kulturellen Transformationen in der ersten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts, die wir heute unter der Signatur „Frühaufklärung" zusammenfassen.

Die Studie gewährt Einblick in die Schaffensweise hochmittelalterlicher deutscher Romanautoren, die in der Regel Bearbeiter französischer Quellen sind. Am Beispiel Heinrichs von Veldeke, der schon den Zeitgenossen als Pionier galt, wird gezeigt, dass bei der Adaptation rhetorisch-poetische Schulprinzipien wirksam werden, denen die gelehrten Autoren habituell verhaftet sind. Dies schränkt ihren dichterischen Freiraum ein und befördert doch auch ihre Kreativität, denn gerade die Beherrschung des regelgerechten poetischen Instrumentariums ermöglicht ihnen die Hervorbringung großer Dichtungen. The study conveys insights into the creative strategies employed by German romance authors of the high Middle Ages in the adaptation of their usually French sources. With reference to Heinrich von Veldeke, noted by his contemporaries for his pioneering status, it indicates that the adaptation process was influenced by firmly established rhetorical and poetic principles that the scholarly authors habitually complied with. While this restricted the scope of their poetic license, it also encouraged their creativity. It was in fact precisely their command of this rule-guided poetic repertory that enabled them to produce great literature.
