"Paradigms for a Metaphorology may be read as a kind of beginner's guide to Blumenberg, a programmatic introduction to his vast and multifaceted oeuvre. Its brevity makes it an ideal point of entry for readers daunted by the sheer bulk of Blumenberg's later writings, or distracted by their profusion of historical detail. Paradigms expresses many of Blumenberg's key ideas with a directness, concision, and clarity he would rarely match elsewhere. What is more, because it served as a beginner's guide for its author as well, allowing him to undertake an initial survey of problems that would preoccupy him for the remainder of his life, it has the additional advantage that it can offer us a glimpse into what might be called the ¿genesis of the Blumenbergian world.’"-from the Afterword by Robert SavageWhat role do metaphors play in philosophical language? Are they impediments to clear thinking and clear expression, rhetorical flourishes that may well help to make philosophy more accessible to a lay audience, but that ought ideally to be eradicated in the interests of terminological exactness? Or can the images used by philosophers tell us more about the hopes and cares, attitudes and indifferences that regulate an epoch than their carefully elaborated systems of thought? In Paradigms for a Metaphorology, originally published in 1960 and here made available for the first time in English translation, Hans Blumenberg (1920-1996) approaches these questions by examining the relationship between metaphors and concepts. Blumenberg argues for the existence of "absolute metaphors" that cannot be translated back into conceptual language. These metaphors answer the supposedly naïve, theoretically unanswerable questions whose relevance lies quite simply in the fact that they cannot be brushed aside, since we do not pose them ourselves but find them already posed in the ground of our existence. They leap into a void that concepts are unable to fill.An afterword by the translator, Robert Savage, positions the book in the intellectual context of its time and explains its continuing importance for work in the history of ideas.

Philosophy of religion is a highly diversified field. An apt description of it is "zoo." It conjures imagery of a species-wide cacophony of sights and sounds. While some bemoan what this description implies, contributors to this volume appreciate it. There is no reason why a zoo should intimate a den of confusion rather than an important condition of emergence and novelty. "Polyphonic" is the catchall term to capture this sentiment. It signals a way of thinking that resists the desire to siphon insight into manageable packets of information in the name of historicality and finitude. A polyphon

"This collection represents the development of the philosophy, methodology and philosophy of collective writing developed in the last few years by members of the Editors' Collective, (EC) who also edit, review and contribute to Educational Philosophy and Theory (EPAT) and also now to PESA Agora (https://pesaagora.com/, Editor: Tina Besley) and Access (https://pesaagora.com/access-journal/, Editor: Nina Hood), two PESA 'journals' recently developed by EC members. This book develops the philosophy, methodology and pedagogy of collective writing as a new mode of academic writing as an alternative to the normal academic article. The philosophy of collective writing draws on a new mode of academic publishing that emphasises the metaphysics of peer production and open review along with the main characteristics of openness, collaboration, co-creation and co-social innovation, peer review and collegiality that have become a praxis for the self-reflection emphasising the subjectivity of writing (sometimes called self-writing). This collection, under the EPAT series Editor's Choice, draws on a group of members of the Editors' Collective (EC), who constitute a network of editors, reviewers and authors who established the organisation to further the aims of innovation in academic writing and publishing. It provides discussion and examples of the philosophy, methodology and pedagogy of collective writing"--...

Ziel ist eine Neubestimmung philosophischer Lektüre und die Erarbeitung einer Methodik, die sich an der individuellen Verfasstheit und Materialität des Textes bemisst The articles by philosophers, philologists, and editorial scholars in this volume examine whether the “aestheticization of thinking” achieved in the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche and Theodor W. Adorno should be regarded as a key characteristic of philosophical argumentation. The aim is a reevaluation of philosophical reading and the development of a philological method that assesses each text in terms of its particular nature and materiality

The articles by philosophers, philologists, and editorial scholars in this volume examine whether the “aestheticization of thinking” achieved in the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche and Theodor W. Adorno should be regarded as a key characteristic of philosophical argumentation. The aim is a reevaluation of philosophical reading and the development of a philological method that assesses each text in terms of its particular nature and materiality
