    Der Autor geht in seinem Buch den Fragen nach, ob das Töten gerechtfertigt sein kann und ob es moralische Gründe dafür gibt, einen Krieg, zB Verteidigungskrieg, notwendig und dadurch legitim erscheinen lassen. Darin werden die klassischen Theorien über gerechte oder ungerechte Kriege analysiert und kritisch überprüft. Der Autor zeigt mit Argumenten und Gegenargumenten auf, welche Probleme sich beim Nachdenken über Gut und Böse im Krieg auftun und wie man diesen, auf Grundlage philosophischen Nachdenkens und Analysierens, begegnen kann. Eingegangen wird auch auf eine gesellschaftliche Debatte, die ua angesichts der militärischen Interventionen im Irak oder in Afghanistan geführt wird. Das Buch beinhaltet ua folgende Kapitel: 1) Die Beteiligung an einem ungerechten Krieg, moralisch betrachtet; 2) Argumente für die moralische Gleichheit der Kombattanten; 3) Entschuldigungen; 4) Haftbarkeit und Grenzen der Notwehr; 5) Immunität von Zivilisten und Haftbarkeit von Zivilisten.
