Angaben zur beteiligten Person Baumann: Prof. Dr. Uwe Baumann lehrt Anglistik/Amerikanistik: Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft an der Universität Bonn. Angaben zur beteiligten Person Becker: Dr. Thomas Becker ist Leiter des Archivs der Universität Bonn und Lehrbeauftragter am Institut für Geschichtswissenschaft, Abteilung für rheinische Landesgeschichte. Moralists observe people and reality turning their visual perceptions and their reflections into literary short forms of a fragmentary and open nature. At the same time, they scrutinize visual perception itself highlighting its cognitive limitations both explicitly, through content, and implicitly, using certain linguistic processes. The texts analysed here, written between the 16th and 18th century, tackle questions which are posed by cognitive sciences today, reaching similarly modern results. Furthermore, their way of writing can be correlated to certain characteristics of human perception. The prismatically refracted diversité of both man and reality is reflected in the diversité of language.; Moralisten beobachten die Menschen und die Wirklichkeit und versprachlichen ihre Blicke und Reflexionen in literarischen Kurzformen mit fragmentarisch offenem Charakter. Zugleich nehmen sie die visuelle Perzeption selbst kritisch in den Blick und lassen kognitive Begrenzungen inhaltlich und anhand sprachlicher Verfahren sichtbar werden. Die hier analysierten Texte vom 16. bis zum 18. Jahrhundert behandeln Fragestellungen, die die heutige Kognitionswissenschaft erneut stellt, und kommen dabei zu ähnlich modernen Ergebnissen. Außerdem kann man eine Korrelation zwischen der Art zu schreiben und der Charakteristik menschlicher Wahrnehmung feststellen. Die diversité von Mensch und Wirklichkeit wird prismatisch gebrochen in einer Sprache der diversité reflektiert.
