    "In His Voice considers the idea of the neuter in Maurice Blanchot's work, and seeks to work out through an exercise of literary impersonation, or ventriloquism, how and why Blanchot relied on this form. Neither active nor passive, the neuter expresses a kind of third voice beyond the command of the author, one that speaks paradoxically of what lies outside of speaking but nonetheless exerts an irrepressible influence on thought. The neuter is exilic, messianic, and fragmentary. Since it cannot be directly accounted for, Blanchot uses a number of indirect approaches--notably, myth--to announce the key elements of his view. Orpheus, Odysseus, and principally Narcissus figure his conception and elaborate the operation of giving voice.     In Fernando Pessoas modernistischem Hauptwerk in Prosa, seinem Buch der Unruhe wird die »Unruhe« zum wichtigsten Zug dieses fragmentarischen Schreibens. Das Unternehmen der Fragmente lässt sich darin zusammenfassen, dass sie die Unruhe als Inbegriff des Literarischen lesbar machen.Die vorliegende Studie nimmt die Passivität und Unruhe für das Schreiben Pessoas in den Blick, das sich hierin in ein komplexes Verhältnis zur literarischen und philosophischen Tradition (Augustinus, Montaigne und besonders Pascal) setzt und zugleich auf poststrukturalistische Theorien des Schreibens (Barthes, Blanchot) weist. Mit der Befragung einer »Poetik der Unruhe« geht die Studie der Frage nach, inwiefern sich die moderne Literatur als etwas fassen ließe, das gerade auch als Kritik der Philosophie ein Denken vollzieht, das allein an diesem Ort des Schreibens, nämlich nur in seinem poetischen Vollzug der Passivität erfolgen kann: Die Studie behauptet für dieses Schreiben eine hierfür eingebrachte »Pathopoiesis«, eine poetische Hervorbringung also von páthos als Bedingung wie Erfahrung literarischen Schreibens.
