    Abstract: The southern Black Forest was temporarily covered by a ∼1000 km2 large ice cap during the Late Pleistocene. However, during the last glaciation maximum in the Alps the atmospheric circulation over Europe was presumably characterised by the advection of humid air masses from the Mediterranean Sea. As a consequence, the ice cap of the Black Forest was likely in a leeward position due to its location north of the Alps.
    This raises the question of whether it reached its last maximum extent simultaneously with the glaciers in the Alps. As modern dating techniques have hitherto not been applied to the southern Black Forest, the timing of the last local glaciation maximum remains poorly constrained.
    As a first step towards an independent regional glacier chronology, we present a critical re-examination of glacial landforms in the area north-west of the highest summit of the Black Forest (Feldberg, 1493 m a.s.l.). It relies on both the analysis of remote sensing data and field mapping.
    The review of previous studies highlights important disagreements regarding the location of ice-marginal positions and their correlation.
    In addition, our findings challenge earlier studies on the glaciation of the Black Forest: some previously described ice-marginal positions could not be confirmed, whereas some of the newly identified moraines are described for the first time.
    This highlights the need for detailed geomorphological investigations prior to the application of geochronological methods. A multi-ridged series of terminal moraines in one of the studied valleys, Sankt Wilhelmer Tal, is proposed as the main target for future dating. Due to discrepancies with earlier studies, future efforts should reinvestigate other key areas related to the last glaciation of the southern Black Forest

    Ein Dorf im Moor in den 50er Jahren, ein Bauernhof heute - und wie das Weltgeschehen das Leben der Menschen auf dem Land veränderte. Davon erzählt Uta Ruge am Beispiel ihres Dorfes und ihres Bruders. Seit ein paar Tagen stehe ich morgens um sechs mit allen auf, um zu sehen, zu hören und zu riechen, wie sich Landwirtschaft heute anfühlt auf dem Hof, auf dem ich aufgewachsen bin. Ich ziehe die Stallklamotten an und gehe nach draußen. Mir fällt auf, dass ich den Blick hier nicht heben muss, um den Himmel zu sehen. Ob es regnet oder bald regnen wird, wie der Wind geht, ist sofort gewusst, in Auge, Ohr und Nase eingeströmt. Uta Ruge verwebt in Bauern, Land. Die Geschichte meines Dorfes im Weltzusammenhang die Erinnerung an das Leben auf dem Lande in den 50er Jahren mit der genauen Beobachtung der Veränderungen in der Landwirtschaft heute, mit der Chronik des Dorfes, den welthistorischen Zusammenhängen und der Kulturgeschichte, die das Leben der Bauern geprägt haben und prägen. Sie erzählt von harter Arbeit und Abhängigkeit, von der Besiedelung des Moors, von Entwässerung und den Zumutungen der Obrigkeit und der Bürokratie, von Armut und Auswanderung. Aber auch davon, wie man sich gegenseitig unterstützt und hilft und zusammen feiert, von dem Eifer der kleinen Kinder, die den Eltern zur Hand gehen und lernen, dass gegen Arbeit nichts hilft, außer sie zu tun.

    Moor hat Konjunktur. Renaturierungsprojekte, die Moore wieder in frühere Zustände zurückversetzen sollen, werden durch den Umweltschutz und die Hoffnung motiviert, durch die Wiederherstellung des CO2-Speichers Moor, dem anthropogenen Klimawandel entgegenzuwirken. Zugleich wagte die Literatur in den vergangenen Jahren zahlreiche Moorgänge. Hierbei wird einerseits an Traditionen des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts, etwa Anette von Droste-Hülshofs "Knaben in Moor" angeknüpft, zugleich werden neue Formen des Nature Writings aber auch der Etablierung devianter literarischer Räume erprobt. Der Band vereint Beiträge unterschiedlicher Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaften, die neben Texten der Urbarmachungsbestrebungen des 18. Jahrhundert, den literarischen Moorsemantiken der Romantik und der Lyrik des späten 20. und frühen 21. Jahrhunderts auch Beispiele der südamerikanischen, russischen und belgischen Literatur versammelt. Er bietet damit erstmals eine umfassende literatur- und kulturwissenschaftliche Sondage dieses bislang kaum erforschten literarischen Feldes Moors are currently all the rage, and not just due to renaturation projects for CO2 storage.
