    Abstract: To begin with, Heart of Darkness has always been challenging for every critic who feels the urge to take either pro-colonialist or contra-colonialist positions. However, herein the main focus would be set less upon the binary stances regarding the protagonist and his leanings toward the natives. Based on the indissociability of the psychological-cum-cultural operations, this study lends itself best to an amalgam of Freudian together with Bhabhian theories such as the dreamwork, repetition-compulsion, mimickry and hybridization. That is to say, it deserves attention to see the colonialist ideology through the dissecting lens of psychoanalysis. Besides, Tiffin's subversive counter-discourse would provide a valuable source to this study. The present study aims to explore the underlying motive for Marlow's narration and his interaction with the natives free from a slippery evaluation of the narratives prime facie.     Abstract: This essay sets out to study the function of hybridity and mimicry in Jean Rhy's acclaimed novel Wide Sargasso Sea drawing on Homi K. Bhabha's theoretical framework in this regard. In this novel, Antoinette emerges as the "Other" who aims to prove herself to the "Centre". Undergoing extreme sufferings, the heroine wistfully ponders mimicry as an impulse to break out of her mare's nest and to establish herself within one culture. Indeed, unlike what Bhabha believes mimicry cannot upset the total authority of the "Centre". Meanwhile, Antoinette used it as a result of her longings for the position of the "Centre" which she is unable to attain because of her hybrid existence. Countering Homi K. Bhabha's central argument, this essay contends that Antoinette’s mimicry of Englishness fails to fend off the norms of the superior power, but partakes in celebrating the very ideals that Bhabah's theory is trying to keep at bay

    Die Haitianische Revolution (1791-1804) war als erste Selbstbefreiung versklavter People of Color von europäischer Kolonialherrschaft ein bahnbrechendes Ereignis der Weltgeschichte. Heute fast vergessen ist, dass die Aus­einandersetzung mit ihr in der deutschsprachigen Literatur Narrative hervorbrachte, die nicht nur das Verhältnis zu Eurozentrismus, Sklaverei und Rassismus neu bestimmten, sondern auch an der Entstehung eines modernen Verständnisses von Revolutionen als globalen und fortschrittlichen Selbstbefreiungsprozessen entscheidenden Anteil hatten: Von der Haitianischen Revolution wurde in wechselnden Konjunkturen, doch mit erstaunlich stabilen Mustern als Ereignis erzählt, das unhintergehbar Neues in die Welt setzte und dabei von der Handlungsmacht der Unterworfenen zeugte.

Nicht als Akteure, sondern lediglich als Rezipienten werden sie im Zuge der sogenannten Universalisierungsprozesse im 19. Jahrhundert Teil dieser Meistererzählung.Diese transdisziplinäre Studie versucht anhand der ersten Völkerrechtslehre Hispanoamerikas dieses Narrativ der Passivität neu zu denken. Der chilenische Universalgelehrte Andrés Bello übersetzte in diesem Kompendium von 1833 die europäischen Lehren für die „Neue Welt“. Aufbauend auf einer postkolonialen Perspektive wird gezeigt, dass die Nachahmung des europäischen Völkerrechtsdiskurses mehr ist als ein rein passives und unterwürfiges Verhalten. Vielmehr eröffnet sich in diesem grundlegend ambivalenten Prozess ein Widerstandsraum, in dem Bedeutung zu jedem Zeitpunkt neu verhandelt wird und der an Homi K. Bhabhas Konzept der Mimikry erinnert. To this day, the history of international law is dominated by a Eurocentric historiography in which non-European worlds play a passive role at best. Master narratives of universalisation and progress may include their histories; however, they appear not in the form of actors, but as mere receivers.By analysing the first Hispano-American textbook on international law, this transdisciplinary study questions this narrative of passivity. In his compendium, published in 1833, the Chilean polymath Andrés Bello translated Euro-pean doctrines of international law for use in the context of the “New World”. Using a postcolonial approach, the study demonstrates that the imitation of the European discourse on international law was not a purely passive and submissive act, but deeply ambivalent behaviour which opens up a space for resistance and is reminiscent of Homi K. Bhabha’s concept of mimicry.
