    Main description: This study examines the use of prefabricated language (conventional lexical collocations) in the production of native and non-native writers of English. It first develops a framework for the description of restricted collocations and then reviews experimental research into the psycholinguistic processing of prefabricated language. Computer-based corpora of native and advanced non-native academic writing are analysed to discover to what extent and how such collocations are used in formal written English. Pedagogical implications are then considered, and the final part of the study examines the selection and presentation of restricted collocations in general and phraseological dictionaries for learners. The conclusion suggests that advanced learners need specialist collocational dictionaries, and the results of this research help to establish principles for the design of such dictionaries

    Main description: 27 German studies scholars and one philosopher have contributed these essays in honour of Helmut Henne. The subject matter ranges from reflection on the dialogic principle, the linguistic analysis of literary texts, contributions on the history of language critique, the critical discussion of lexicological and lexicographic issues, the historical, systematic and contrastive/intercultural study of important problems in semantics and pragmatics all the way to selected issues in the theory of German studies as a scholarly discipline.     Main description: The volume assembles 29 selected articles on Germanic studies (Germanistics) and linguistics by Helmut Henne from the period between 1968 and 2003. 'Germanistics' and 'linguistics' come together in the name 'Germanistic linguistics' designating a subject established by Helmut Henne and others in the early 1970s. It is a product of the academic discourse conducted in modern-language departments at the time and has established itself in the institutional structure of German universities without discontinuing the traditional contacts with Old Germanic studies, literary history, and philology. The four chapters of the volume centre around four different research fields in Germanistic linguistics. They all represent a celebration of the richness of language: semantics and lexicography; group languages (yesterday, today, tomorrow); the linguistics of conversation; language history and literary linguistics. The studies assembled here outline the history of 'Germanistic linguistics', reflect it, and at the same time point to its potential development in the future. Examples of the latter case are cognitive linguistics and 'hypertext lexicography', the linguistics of language varieties, applied dialogue research, and a critique of language firmly rooted both in philology and linguistics

    This volume offers papers that emerged from the meeting of the International Syriac Language Project (ISLP) which took place at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, in September 2016, and at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, in August 2017. The ISLP invites research not only into Syriac, but extends its range to all ancient language lexicography. Hence its proceedings enrich the whole field of Syriac, Hebrew, and Greek lexicography. The ISLP especially encourages research into the interfaces between these languages, and hence the current volume contains a number of papers on translation equivalence: Hebrew-Greek, Hebrew-Syriac, and Greek-Syriac.     Un mundo en retazos léxicos. Ambientes lingüísticos en la literatura oral de Jaén‹/i› supone el estudio etnográfico y antropológico de una población a través del estudio del léxico. Desde una unidad fragmentada -retazos- se muestra cómo se crean y recrean los contextos socio-culturales, en especial, aquellos vinculados a la botánica, la gastronomía, el folklore, la magia, la religión, la lengua y las costumbres. Distintas miradas y ambientes lingüísticos que nos ofrecen una totalidad cultural que se cristaliza en la vida humana y en donde el lenguaje de la comunidad de habla se ejerce como práctica social.‹br/›‹br/›La base del trabajo se ha desarrollado dentro del proyecto de I+D (Excelencia) "Documentación, tratamiento archivístico digital y estudio lexicológico, histórico-literario y musicológico del patrimonio oral de la Andalucía oriental" (ref. FFI2017-82344-P, 2018-2020). El dominio de acción se ubica en el conjunto de prácticas que se desprende del repertorio de muestras orales, en serio peligro de desaparición, que aparecen volcadas en el ‹i›Corpus de Literatura Oral (CLO)‹/i›, que pretende la recuperación de este patrimonio inmaterial oral
