    Op 8 juni 1968 werd het dode lichaam van Robert F. Kennedy door een begrafenistrein van New York City naar Washington D.C. gevoerd om te worden begraven op het kerkhof van Arlington. Fotograaf Paul Fusco maakte van op de begrafenistrein foto's van het rouwende publiek, dat zich aan de sporen verzamelde voor een laatste groet. Veel van deze foto's zijn iconische beelden geworden. Kunstenaar Rein Jelle Terpstra verzamelde sinds 2014 beeldmateriaal, gemaakt door de toeschouwers naast de sporen zelf, voor zijn project 'The People's View'. Kunstenaar Philippe Parreno liet zich inspireren door de originele beelden van Fusco. Hij bekijkt de gebeurtenis vanuit het standpunt van de dode zelf. 'The Train' brengt historische en hedendaagse perspectieven samen en laat zo een nieuw licht schijnen op een belangrijk moment in de Amerikaanse geschiedenis.     On June 8, 1968, amidst a year wracked by division and violence, the casket of assassinated Senator and presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy was transported on a funeral train from New York City to Washington, DC. Hundreds of thousands of people united along the tracks in a spontaneous expression of grief. Visual artist Rein Jelle Terpstra diligently collected snapshots, film stills, and accounts of that muggy summer day, presenting a poignant photographic reconstruction of the historic train journey in this beautifully designed and bound book.     Den 2. april 1588 døde kong Frederik 2. uventet på Antvorskov Kloster ved Slagelse. Allerede samme dag skulle forholdene om begravelsen afklares, men ikke mindre vigtigt var det at finde en løsning på, hvordan landet skulle ledes, indtil den unge prins Christian kunne overtage styret. Det blev derfor besluttet af Rigsrådet, at udgifterne til begravelsen skulle holdes på et rimeligt niveau. Sådan kom det dog ikke til at gå. På begravelsesdagen den 5. juni i Roskilde deltog flere hundrede i det lange ligtog, heriblandt kongelige trompetere og paukeslagere, rigsråder, beklædte heste og hele 32 adelsmænd til at bære kisten. Enkedronningen var nemlig ikke tilfreds med en simpel affære, og hun sørgede for, at kongens begravelse var på linje med andre potentater og fyrsters. Frederik 2.s begravelse giver arkæolog Jens Vellev en udførlig beskrivelse af begravelsen i 1588 samt den symbolske og ceremonielle kultur, der var forbundet med begivenheden. Derudover indeholder bogen en serie grafiske blade i naturlig målestok, der gengiver forskellige dele af det lange optog forsynet med forklarende latinske tekster oversat til dansk.

    Op 8 juni 1968 werd het dode lichaam van Robert F. Kennedy door een begrafenistrein van New York City naar Washington D.C. gevoerd om te worden begraven op het kerkhof van Arlington. Fotograaf Paul Fusco maakte van op de begrafenistrein foto's van het rouwende publiek, dat zich aan de sporen verzamelde voor een laatste groet. Veel van deze foto's zijn iconische beelden geworden. Kunstenaar Rein Jelle Terpstra verzamelde sinds 2014 beeldmateriaal, gemaakt door de toeschouwers naast de sporen zelf, voor zijn project 'The People's View'. Kunstenaar Philippe Parreno liet zich inspireren door de originele beelden van Fusco. Hij bekijkt de gebeurtenis vanuit het standpunt van de dode zelf. 'The Train' brengt historische en hedendaagse perspectieven samen en laat zo een nieuw licht schijnen op een belangrijk moment in de Amerikaanse geschiedenis.
