    In der vorliegenden Studie, die sich als Beitrag zur historischen Sprachkontakt- und Mehrsprachigkeitsforschung versteht, wird der Sprachwechsel der Hugenotten vom Französischen zum Deutschen in verschiedenen brandenburgischen Stadt- und Landkolonien rekonstruiert. Die an archivalischen Quellen vorgenommene Untersuchung zeigt, dass dieser Prozess je nach lokaler, sozialer und sprachlicher Umgebung sehr verschieden verlief und unterschiedliche Dynamiken entfaltete. Die sprachliche Akkulturation der frankophonen Migranten und ihrer nachfolgenden Generationen wird aus verschiedenen Perspektiven beleuchtet. Differenziert nach Mündlichkeit und Schriftlichkeit, Domänen und Textsorten, Schrift- und Schreibkompetenz, Schreibusus und Schriftsprachwandel sowie monolingualem und bilingualem Sprachunterricht wird in Longitudinalstudien der vom 17. bis 19. Jahrhundert dauernde Übergang zum Deutschen empirisch untersucht. Es zeigt sich, dass Sprachwechsel nicht das einfache Auswechseln der einen Sprache durch eine andere bedeutet, sondern ein komplexer und asynchroner Abbau, Umbau und Aufbau sprachlicher Muster in einem permanent mehrsprachigen Kontext ist

    Readers of poetry make aesthetic judgements about verse. It is quite common to hear intuitive statements about poets' rhythms. It is said, for example, that Joseph Brodsky, the Russian poet and 1987 Nobel Prize laureate, "sounds English" when he writes in Russian. Yet, it is far from clear what this statement means from a linguistic point of view. What is English about Brodsky's Russian poetry? And in what way are his "English" rhythms different from the verse of his Russian predecessors? The book provides an analysis of Brodsky's experiment bringing evidence from an unusually wide variety of disciplines and theories rarely combined in a single study, including the generative approach to meter; the Russian quantitative approach, analysis of readers' intuitions about poetic rhythm, analysis of the poet's source readings, as well as acoustic phonetics, statistics, and archival research. The distinct analytic approaches applied in this book to the same phenomenon complement one another each providing insight alternate approaches do not, and showing that only a combination of theories and methods allows us to fully appreciate what Brodsky's "English accent" really was, and what any poetic innovation means

Im Mittelpunkt steht die Rekonstruktion der sprachlichen Integration dieser Migranten, die im Laufe der Zeit ihre französische Sprache aufgaben und zur deutschen Sprache übergingen. Die Analyse der sprachlichen Situation in drei verschiedenen Hugenottenkolonien zeigt, wie die Sprachwechselprozesse, je nach Ort und Kontext, einen sehr unterschiedlichen Verlauf nahmen. Main description: The study deals with the linguistic acculturation at the end of the 17th century of the French Protestant Huguenots, who also sought refuge in Brandenburg. The study focuses on the reconstruction of the linguistic integration of these migrants, who in the course of time gave up their native French language and went over to German. An analysis of the linguistic situation in three different Huguenot colonies shows that the processes of language change differed widely, depending on the place and context.
