    What Is Jewish Literature? is a richly thoughtful analysis and comprehensive overview of what defines Jewish literature. It is an international collection, featuring authors and scholars who write in different languages from different literary, spiritual, and personal perspectives.     "Ce livre se compose de deux études: La première étude est une analyse des diverses opinions énoncées par les grands auteurs français, de Montaigne à Aragon, sur les autres cultures. Ces opinions peuvent être regroupées en deux courants essentiels: celui du relativisme culturel initié par Montaigne et repris par les philosophes des Lumières et les écrivains du XXe siècle, et celui de la hiérarchie des cultures ; représenté par Gobineau, Michelet et Renan. La deuxième étude est une présentation des symbioses culturelles conçues par les Juifs dans leurs pays d'exil: le judéo-hellénisme, la symbiose andalouse, la symbiose judéo-allemande et le franco-judaïsme. Les deux études sont complémentaires car les auteurs français se sont contentés de réfléchir sur les autres cultures en l'absence de leurs représentants, tandis que le peuple juif, du fait de sa condition diasporique, a établi un vrai dialogue interculturel, qui demeure d'une br̂ûlante actualité, car il montre que le "choc des civilisations" n'est pas une fatalité."
