    Long description: Die Gestaltung der Schrift, ihre Formgebung und Funktionszuweisung ist mit Hilfe ästhetischer Theoreme neu zu lesen. Oliver Ruf, Andreas Sieß und Caroline Knoch zeigen, dass diese Typographie-Ästhetik eine Designtheorie bedingt, die immanent abhängig ist von gesellschaftlichen respektive kulturellen Faktoren, die Räume auf beiden Seiten erschließen: den Raum der Schrift (sowohl auf Papier/auf einem Bildschirm als auch im Setzkasten/in der Software) und den Raum der mit ihr affiziertem Artefakte (Produkte/Gegenstände). Damit werden neben den Möglichkeiten einer visuellen Koexistenz von heterogenen Zeichensätzen auch jene Anforderungen fixierbar, die die Annäherung differenter Kulturen und Gesellschaften immer schon mit sich führt Biographical note: Oliver Ruf (Prof. Dr. phil.) ist Professor für Medienwissenschaft an der Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg und Co-Direktor des Instituts für Medienentwicklung und -analyse (IMEA). Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Theorie, Geschichte und Praxis der Medien und Gestaltungen, Ästhetik, Kulturtechnikforschung sowie Narratologie und Storytelling. Andreas Sieß studierte Medientechnik/-produktion sowie Design interaktiver Medien, arbeitete als Toningenieur, Art Director und freier Expeditionsfotograf. Er ist sowohl 3D-Artist in der Research Group Idealspaces (Biennale Architettura Venezia) als auch Lehrbeauftragter für Mediengestaltung. Caroline Knoch studierte Medienkonzeption sowie Design Interaktiver Medien und ist als freie Grafikerin mit den Schwerpunkten UX/UI Design und Typographie tätig

    Der vorliegende Band beschäftigt sich mit dem Surrealismus in Literatur und Kunst in Algerien, Ägypten, Libanon, Syrien und der Türkei zwischen den 1930er und 1980er Jahren. In einer transkulturellen Perspektive erscheint die zu Beginn der 1920er Jahre von Frankreich ausgehende Bewegung gleichermaßen als globales wie als lokales Phänomen, das in den hier behandelten Regionen weniger auf kollektive als auf individualistische Weise, vornehmlich auf dem Gebiet von Poesie und Sprache, rezipiert wurde. Die Studien in diesem Band verfolgen das Ziel, ein klareres Bild von den Resonanzen des Surrealismus in diesen Regionen zu zeichnen und damit einen Beitrag zur Geschichte sowohl der Transmoderne als auch des Surrealismus zu leisten. Methodisch geht es darum, Verbindungen, Begegnungen und Austausch auf individuell-künstlerischer, politisch-institutioneller und soziohistorischer Ebene zu untersuchen. Ein neuer Blick auf den globalen Surrealismus muss diese Netzwerke und Verbindungen auf der Mikroebene berücksichtigen, wenn es um die Fragen geht, wann, wo und was Surrealismus war. Die Antwort könnte zeigen, dass der Surrealismus weitaus weiter verbreitet war als bisher angenommen. This volume discusses surrealism in literature and art in Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey between the 1930s and 1980s. Surrealism emerged as a movement in art and literature in Europe in the 1920s and quickly spread across the globe. It only led to a few movements or official groups in the regions discussed here and was mainly received in poetry rather than in the arts. However, surrealism played a role, albeit a more discrete and individualistic one. The volume aims at drawing a clearer picture of the sporadic resonances of surrealism in these regions thereby contributing to the history of both transmodernism and surrealism. Methodologically, it seeks to explore connections, encounters, and exchanges on individual, institutional, and spiritual levels. A new look at global surrealism needs to consider these micro-level manifestations when addressing questions such as when, where, and what surrealism was. The answer might reveal that surrealism was far more widespread than presumed until now.

Jahrhunderts im Februar 2006 in Würzburg stattfand. Zentrales Thema der Veranstaltung war die Konstitution der Gattung im Kontext und in Wechselwirkung mit benachbarten Gattungen einerseits, mit der moralisch-didaktischen Dichtung in Mittellatein, Mittelniederländisch und in den romanischen Sprachen andererseits. Die Beiträge des Bandes liefern Bausteine für eine differenzierte Beschreibung des Sangspruchs als Bestandteil eines (inter-)nationalen literarischen Netzwerks und als Ergebnis vielfacher Interferenzerscheinungen. Main description: This volume contains the papers delivered at an international symposium on Sangspruchdichtungwhich took place at the close of the Repertory of Sangspruch and Mastersong from the 12 to 18th centuries held in Würzburg in February 2006. The central theme of the event was the constitution of the genre, on the one hand in the context of neighbouring genres and the interplay with them, and on the other in the interplaywith moral and didactic poetry in Medieval Latin, Middle Dutch and the Romance languages. The papers in the volume contribute to a more sophisticated description of the sangspruch as part of an (inter)national literary network and the result of multiple interference phenomena.

    The speed, scale and spread of international migration and globalisation have firmly placed the issue of intercultural dialogue at the top of the educational agenda in Europe and elsewhere. In this book, Skrefsrud sheds light on intercultural dialogue as a key competence for teachers working in changing and diverse classrooms. In the first part, the notion of dialogue is explored with the theory of culture, religion and communication as the focus. In the second part, Skrefsrud analyses the government-initiated curriculum framework for teacher education in Norway and discusses the preconditions for intercultural dialogue in educational policies. The analysis illustrates how difficult it is to make issues of difference permeate all aspects of teacher preparation. An average book informs but an outstanding book sparks self-reflection and may even compel the reader to act in new and bold ways. The Intercultural Dialogue: Preparing Teachers for Diversity is an outstanding read that I recommend for any educator or educational policy-maker.     Das ästhetische Konzept der Atmosphäre stellt die Befindlichkeiten des Menschen unter verschiedenen Natur- und Kulturbedingungen in den Vordergrund der ästhetischen Betrachtung. Als die erste Monografie, die eine interkulturelle Perspektive in diesen Bereich integriert, widmet sich das Buch „Atmosphären-Ästhetik: Die Verflochtenheit von Natur, Kunst und Kultur“ Diskursen und Praktiken zur ästhetischen Atmosphäre in westlichen und nicht-westlichen Räumen. Die Ansätze, die eine fundamentale Rolle spielen, umfassen interkulturelle Philosophie, Leibphänomenologie, Kunstgeschichte, Bild- und Medientheorie, Umweltphilosophie, Kulturanthropologie und Sprachphilosophie. Auch die Dimensionen aus dem Osten (Daoismus, Buddhismus, Feng-Shui-Lehre usw.) sind in diesem Zusammenhang einbezogen. The aesthetic concept of atmosphere places human sensitivities under various natural and cultural conditions in the foreground of aesthetic consideration. As the first monograph to integrate an intercultural perspective into this field, “Atmosphären-Ästhetik: Die Verflochtenheit von Natur, Kunst und Kultur” is devoted to discourses and practices on aesthetic atmosphere in Western and non-Western spaces. Approaches that play a fundamental role include intercultural philosophy, body phenomenology, history of art, image science, media theory, environmental philosophy, cultural anthropology, and philosophy of language. Dimensions from the East (Daoism, Buddhism, Feng Shui teachings, etc.) are also included in this context.

    Contemporary Indian English Literature focuses on the recent history of Indian literature in English since the publication of Salman Rushdie's novel Midnight's Children (1981), a watershed moment for Indian writing in English in the global literary landscape. The chapters in this volume consider a wide range of poets, novelists, short fiction writers and dramatists who have notably contributed to the proliferation of Indian literature in English from the late 20th century to the present. The volume provides an introduction to current developments in Indian English literature and explains general ideas, as well as the specific features and styles of selected writers from this wide spectrum.
