    This book explores the contemporary crisis of biblical interpretation by examining modern and postmodern forms of the 'hermeneutics of suspicion'. Garrett Green looks at several thinkers who played key roles in creating a radically suspicious reading of the Bible. After Kant, Hamann, and Feuerbach comes Nietzsche, who marked the turn from modern to postmodern suspicion. Green argues that similarities between Derrida's deconstruction and Barth's theology of signs show that postmodern suspicion ought not to be viewed simply as a threat to theology but as a secular counterpart to its own hermeneutical insights. When theology attends to its proper task of describing the grammar of scriptural imagination, it discovers a source of suspicion more radical than the secular, the hermeneutical expression of God's gracious judgement. Green concludes that Christians are committed to the hermeneutical imperative, the never-ending struggle for the meaning of scripture in the hopeful insecurity of the faithful imagination

    This book rethinks the Christianisation of the late Roman empire as a crisis of knowledge, pointing to competitive cultural re-assessment as a major driving force in the making of the Constantinian and post-Constantinian state. Emperor Julian's writings are re-assessed as key to accessing the rise and consolidation of a Christian politics of interpretation that relied on exegesis as a self-legitimising device to secure control over Roman history via claims to Christianity's control of paideia. This reconstruction infuses Julian's reaction with contextual significance. His literary and political project emerges as a response to contemporary reconfigurations of Christian hermeneutics as controlling the meaning of Rome's culture and history. At the same time, understanding Julian as a participant in a larger debate re-qualifies all fourth-century political and episcopal discourse as a long knock-on effect reacting to the imperial mobilisation of Christian debates over the link between power and culture

    La "démythologisation" est une herméneutique philosophique forgée par Hans Jonas au début de son itinéraire intellectuel, afin d'interpréter existentiellement les récits mythologiques ainsi que les textes théologiques et philosophiques de l?Antiquité tardive. Il s?agissait d?abord d?une méthodologie d?objectivation et subjectivation pour comprendre l?expérience existentielle de l?homme gnostique face à la divinité et l?être dans le monde. Dans la suite, Jonas a développé l?herméneutique de la démythologisation par l?objectivation et la subjectivation par rapport aux textes néotestamentaires. Le mot démythologisation ("Entmythologisierung") est utilisé par lui pour la première fois en 1930 dans une étude philosophique, 'Sur la structure herméneutique du dogme', pour comprendre le problème existentiel de la liberté chrétienne. Quelques années plus tard, il a développé une phénoménologie herméneutique, également par l?objectivation et la subjectivation, afin de comprendre l?être vivant et la particularité de l?homme dans la nature. Entre-temps, Hans Jonas a aussi utilisé l?herméneutique de la démythologisation par l?objectivation et la subjectivation pour critiquer la philosophie de Martin Heidegger et la théologie de Rudolf Bultmann dans plusieurs articles philosophiques par rapport au gnosticisme, à la théologie et à la démythologisation bultmannienne, ainsi que pour rédiger Le Concept de Dieu après Auschwitz

Kunst und ästhetische Erfahrung gewinnen für die Reflexion religiöser Erfahrung an Bedeutung. Die ästhetische Dimension des Glaubens wird wiederentdeckt.Die Autorin untersucht anhand verschiedener Entwürfe die systematisch-theologischen Grundvoraussetzungen einer solchen Bezugnahme und fragt nach Chancen, aber auch Grenzen einer Annäherung von Theologie und Ästhetik. Sie zeigt auf, dass sich die Notwendigkeit einer Bezugnahme von Theologie und Ästhetik aus der hermeneutischen Fragestellung nach Gestalt und Wahrnehmung des lebendigen Wortes Gottes ergibt. Als theologischer Ort einer Ästhetik wird die Fundamentaltheologie im Sinne einer Selbstreflexion über die Bedingungen theologischen Denkens bestimmt. Die wichtigste Einsicht auf dem Weg zur ästhetischen Dimension des Glaubens ist dabei, dass diese uns mit der Heiligen Schrift immer schon mitgegeben ist. Gottes Wahrnehmung des Menschen als Sünder und Gerechtfertigter ist damit das Kriterium aller menschlichen Wahrnehmungsvollzüge

    Martina Kumlehn rekonstruiert erstmals die wechselvolle Rezeption des Johannesevangeliums in religionspädagogischen Konzeptionen des 20. Jahrhunderts. Fünf Studien orientieren sich an den großen Entwicklungslinien der Disziplin von der liberalen Religionspädagogik bis zur Symboldidaktik, zeigen jedoch anhand dieses besonderen Fokus, wie komplex sich die Disziplingeschichte darstellt, wenn theologiegeschichtliche Kontexte differenziert wahrgenommen werden. In einer sechsten Studie rekonstruiert die Autorin die narrative Theorie Paul Ricoeurs im Kontext seiner Hermeneutik und seiner Metapherntheorie, erprobt das Modell dreifacher Mimesis und überkreuzter Referenz von Geschichts- und Fiktionserzählung an einer Analyse des Johannesevangeliums und fragt von da aus nach den Impulsen dieses Ansatzes für eine Religions- und Bibeldidaktik im Spannungsfeld von Phänomenologie und Semiotik. Wahrnehmungskompetenz, fiktionale Wirklichkeitskonstruktionen und ihr Verhältnis zur Geschichte sowie die Ausbildung narrativer Identität stehen dabei im Zentrum
