    Im Januar 2017 rief Lee Shulman The Anonymous Project ins Leben. Seitdem erhielt er von Spendern und Händlern fast 700.000 Aufnahmen aus der Mitte des letzten Jahrhunderts, deren Negative und Diapositive er sammelte, konservierte und katalogisierte und jetzt beim TASCHEN Verlag publiziert. The Anonymous Project, das hier erstmals veröffentlicht wird, zeigt eine kuratierte Auswahl von etwa 300 Bildern, die das Leben unzähliger anonymer Personen dokumentiert, und dies Jahrzehnte vor Instagram oder Snapchat. Die Aufnahmen reichen von den Fünfzigern, als die Farbfotografie für jedermann erschwinglich wurde, bis in die siebziger Jahre und bestechen durch ihre Kodachrome-Farben. Auch wenn die abgebildeten Menschen unbekannt sind, gehören diese Aufnahmen und die faszinierenden Geschichten, die dahinterstecken, zum universellen Erfahrungsschatz unserer westlichen Welt.     'Year 3' is one of the most ambitious records of citizenship ever undertaken. Using the medium of the traditional school class photograph, this epic work captures tens of thousands of London schoolchildren from a single academic year. Mapping a picture of the present, the artwork captures a milestone year in a child's personal development: the moment when they become more conscious of the world beyond their immediate family. It is a critical time for them to develop confidence in all areas of life, to understand more about their place in the changing world and to think about the future. Depicting rows of children sitting or standing alongside their teachers and teaching assistants, Year 3 reflects this moment of excitement, anxiety and hope. Year 3 is more than a portrait of a generation however: it documents and explores, in a way never before attempted, a range of urgent ideas connected to the UK, and to our world, today. This book takes the photographs as a starting point and looks ahead, commenting on and contextualising the artwork and its message, but also providing a platform for new voices, and a new set of ideas. Year 3 is less a commemoration and more an active extension of the artwork itself: 'a glimpse of the capital's future, a hopeful portrait of a generation to come.'

    Notre contribution vise à approcher, aussi finement que possible, l’introduction de la photographie dans quatre congrégations féminines belges de la seconde moitié du xixe siècle. Il s’agit, d’une part, d’observer les modes de représentation photographique de (groupes de) religieuses, de leurs supérieures et de personnalités proches de ces communautés et, d’autre part, d’interroger les usages de ces clichés et albums conservés dans les archives des congrégations. À la lumière d’une connaissance approfondie de l’histoire des communautés féminines de l’époque, l’objectif est de saisir en quoi ces photographies reflètent des normes imposées aux femmes entrées en religion, mais aussi dans quelle mesure elles peuvent constituer des lieux de hiérarchisation, d’affranchissement et/ou de négociation des rapports sociaux de genre et de classe. In our contribution we want to offer an in-depth analysis of the introduction of photographic practices in four Belgian sister congregations in the second half of the nineteenth century. On the one hand, we will observe the forms of photographic representation of (groups) of religious women, their superiors and people related to the congregations. On the other hand, the focus will be on examining the purpose and use of these photographs and albums preserved in archives of religious communities. In relation to the general history of this secluded world of religious women, the central research objective will be to understand to what extent these photographic portraits reflected or challenged traditional rules and norms of female convent life and how these images could create spaces of hierarchisation, empowerment and/or negotiation in relation to existing social and gender relations.
