Mais comme le génie du dilettantisme tient dans la contradiction, la méfiance ne l'a pas empêché de déployer une vaste activité en lien avec le monde cinématographique. D'abord à travers des commandes publicitaires, puis des projets d'animation, enfin l'adaptation par Roman Polanski de son premier roman. En parallèle sont apparues des co-scénarisations, quelques seconds rôles et une pléthore de figurations. Activités auxquelles la coréalisation en 1989 d'un film remarqué, quoique encore mal compris, a apporté le point d'orgue. La rencontre de Topor et de l'art cinématographique évoque celle de l'enfance et du jouet.
