    In Brian Friel's writing, the distinction between public and private is closely linked to the concepts of home, family, identity and truth. This study examines the characters' excessive introspection and their deep-seated need to disclose their most intimate knowledge and private truths to define who they are and, thus, to oppose dominant discourse or avoid heteronomy. This study begins by investigating how a number of Anglo-Irish writers publicised their characters' private versions of truth thereby illustrating what they perceived to be the space of 'Irishness'. The book then focuses on Friel's techniques of sharing his character's private views to demonstrate how he adopted and adapted these practices in his own oeuvre. As the characters' superficial inarticulateness and their vivid inner selves are repeatedly juxtaposed in Friel's texts, his oeuvre, quintessentially, displays a great unease with the concepts of communication and absolute truth.     Der polnische Autor Marian Pankowski (1919-2011) und sein literarischer Beitrag zum Holocaust-Diskurs sind der deutschsprachigen Öffentlichkeit bislang leider nur wenig bekannt. Mit ihrer vorliegenden Studie leistet Iris Bauer einen Beitrag dazu, dass Pankowski auch hier stärkere Beachtung zuteilwird.Bei Pankowski überzeugt insbesondere sein Umgang mit der Geschichte, mit seiner persönlichen Erfahrung und wie sie in seinen Erzählungen durch den Weitblick der Reflexion, das Einbeziehen der Marginalität sowie eine Sprache über den Holocaust, die jede und jeden anspricht, literarisiert wird. Seine Erzählung Nie ma Zydówki kann als Quintessenz seiner Auseinandersetzung mit dem Holocaust gelesen und als neue Etappe für die kontroverse Aufarbeitung des Schreibens über den Holocaust betrachtet werden. Zudem besticht der Text durch seine Aktualität im Hier und Jetzt unserer Gegenwart, sodass wir es mit einem Text zu tun haben, der auch ein junges Publikum anspricht, also diejenigen Leser_innen, die erst heute mit dem Holocaust konfrontiert werden.Iris Bauer rückt den Umgang Pankowskis mit der Geschichte des Holocaust und seine besonderen literarischen Strategien, sein enttabuisierendes Schreiben in den Fokus. Durch die Verknüpfung verschiedener Ansätze innerhalb der literarischen Kommunikation gelingt es Bauer herauszuarbeiten, wie Nie ma Zydówki an Kommunikationen anknüpft, Kommunikation reflektiert und Gebrauch von ihr macht. Die Studie erleichtert den Zugang zur komplexen Erzählweise Pankowskis und bettet diese in den aktuellen Diskurs über Holocaust-Literatur, ihre Grenzen und Herausforderungen ein.

In Brian Friel's writing, the distinction between public and private is closely linked to the concepts of home, family, identity and truth. This study examines the characters' excessive introspection and their deep-seated need to disclose their most intimate knowledge and private truths to define who they are and, thus, to oppose dominant discourse or avoid heteronomy. This study begins by investigating how a number of Anglo-Irish writers publicised their characters' private versions of truth thereby illustrating what they perceived to be the space of 'Irishness'. The book then focuses on Friel's techniques of sharing his character's private views to demonstrate how he adopted and adapted these practices in his own oeuvre. As the characters' superficial inarticulateness and their vivid inner selves are repeatedly juxtaposed in Friel's texts, his oeuvre, quintessentially, displays a great unease with the concepts of communication and absolute truth

    Der polnische Autor Marian Pankowski (1919-2011) und sein literarischer Beitrag zum Holocaust-Diskurs sind der deutschsprachigen Öffentlichkeit bislang leider nur wenig bekannt. Mit ihrer vorliegenden Studie leistet Iris Bauer einen Beitrag dazu, dass Pankowski auch hier stärkere Beachtung zuteilwird. Bei Pankowski überzeugt insbesondere sein Umgang mit der Geschichte, mit seiner persönlichen Erfahrung und wie sie in seinen Erzählungen durch den Weitblick der Reflexion, das Einbeziehen der Marginalität sowie eine Sprache über den Holocaust, die jede und jeden anspricht, literarisiert wird. Seine Erzählung Nie ma Zydówki kann als Quintessenz seiner Auseinandersetzung mit dem Holocaust gelesen und als neue Etappe für die kontroverse Aufarbeitung des Schreibens über den Holocaust betrachtet werden. Zudem besticht der Text durch seine Aktualität im Hier und Jetzt unserer Gegenwart, sodass wir es mit einem Text zu tun haben, der auch ein junges Publikum anspricht, also diejenigen Leser_innen, die erst heute mit dem Holocaust konfrontiert werden. Iris Bauer rückt den Umgang Pankowskis mit der Geschichte des Holocaust und seine besonderen literarischen Strategien, sein enttabuisierendes Schreiben in den Fokus. Durch die Verknüpfung verschiedener Ansätze innerhalb der literarischen Kommunikation gelingt es Bauer herauszuarbeiten, wie Nie ma Zydówki an Kommunikationen anknüpft, Kommunikation reflektiert und Gebrauch von ihr macht. Webserien, Games, E-Books, Viral Spots und Transmediale Geschichten – all dies sind neue Formate, in denen auch neue Erzählweisen ausprobiert werden. Doch nach welchen GeSetzmäßigkeiten funktionieren diese? Ist es die bekannte Dramaturgie – oder müssen Autoren und Kreative heute ein neues ABC lernen? Dennis Eick zeigt, welche neuen Erzählformen durch das Internet und die technischen Möglichkeiten der Digitalisierung realisiert werden können. Er stellt zahlreiche Beispiele aus dem nationalen und internationalen Bereich vor und führt Interviews mit namhaften Fachleuten aus den einzelnen Genres. Dabei stehen nicht nur die Dramaturgie, sondern auch die wirtschaftlichen Bedingungen und konkreten Arbeitsfelder für Kreative im Vordergrund. Denn nicht nur die Grenzen zwischen Film und Games schwinden, sondern beide Medien nähern sich immer stärker an. Das Gleiche findet auch in der vielbeschworenen Konvergenz von TV und Internet statt, welche zum Beispiel in den vielen Social Media-Anwendungen immer neue Erzählformen generiert. Geschichten verändern sich, überschreiten die Grenzen der einzelnen Medien, ob sie linear oder non-linear erzählt werden, ob sie einen passiven Zuschauer oder einen aktiven Konsumenten ansprechen. Erstmals zeigt ein Buch die GeSetze und Möglichkeiten auf, mit denen Geschichten heute und in Zukunft erzählt werden können.

    In Brian Friel's writing, the distinction between public and private is closely linked to the concepts of home, family, identity and truth. This study examines the characters' excessive introspection and their deep-seated need to disclose their most intimate knowledge and private truths to define who they are and, thus, to oppose dominant discourse or avoid heteronomy. This study begins by investigating how a number of Anglo-Irish writers publicised their characters' private versions of truth thereby illustrating what they perceived to be the space of 'Irishness'. The book then focuses on Friel's techniques of sharing his character's private views to demonstrate how he adopted and adapted these practices in his own oeuvre. As the characters' superficial inarticulateness and their vivid inner selves are repeatedly juxtaposed in Friel's texts, his oeuvre, quintessentially, displays a great unease with the concepts of communication and absolute truth.
