    Franz Kraus (*11.08.1901, †27.12.1997), zu Lebzeiten der Doyen der österreichischen Eisenbahnfotografen, hat unzählige Fotos auf den Bahnhöfen der österreichischen Bundeshauptstadt geschossen. Dabei entstand ein repräsentativer Querschnitt durch die dort anzutreffenden Triebfahrzeuge und Zuggarnituren. Das Bouquet umfasst Dampflokomotiven, E-Loks und Diesellokomotiven genauso wie Triebwagen. Neben Fahrzeugen der ÖBB finden sich solche der DR und ČSD als „Vindobona“, aber auch der MÁV, GySEV und DB. Ebenso wie die Triebfahrzeuge verdient die Zusammenstellung der Wagengarnituren – von altgedientem Material aus k.u.k. Zeiten über Wagen aus der Ersten Republik bis zu damals gerade in Dienst gestellten Neubauwagen – Beachtung. Des Weiteren finden sich auch ausländische Wagen auf den Fotos, die nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs in Österreich verblieben. En passant gewinnt der Betrachter Einblicke in die Abwicklung des Bahnbetriebs vergangener Zeiten. Der Zeitrahmen, in der die Aufnahmen entstanden, erstreckt sich von den ersten Jahren nach Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs bis in die 1980er Jahre.
