    Dieses Buch bietet keine "trockene" rechtstheoretische oder rechtsphilosophische Abhandlung, sondern ein bewegtes, die Theorie nicht scheuendes Nachdenken über "law in action". Indem Laurent de Sutter sich dem faszinierenden Genre des Polizeifilms zuwendet, greift er die kulturwissenschaftliche Forderung auf, bei der Suche nach der Wirklichkeit des Rechts seine symbolischen Repräsentationen nicht auszublenden, sondern sie als konstitutiven Bestandteil der sozialen Rechtsgeltung ernst zu nehmen. Die Suche nach dem gestalterischen Prinzip der Polizei, ihrer "poiesis", führt zur Erkenntnis, dass es verfehlt wäre, sie als reinen Garanten von "law and order" zu verstehen. Vielmehr wirkt sie häufig mit an der Suspension des Rechts wie an der Korruption ihrer eigenen Ordnung - Ausdruck einer eigenen Form der "Entdifferenzierungskultur", in der die Grenzen von Recht, Politik, Polizei und Ökonomie fließend werden. Wenn die Rechtsanwendung strukturell immer Elemente der Gewalt und der Ungerechtigkeit in sich trägt, dann kann gerade die Polizei dieser Aporie nicht entgehen und muss sich in ihrem Handeln zwangsläufig in Widersprüche verwickeln. Es sind solche Formen der Grenzziehung und Entgrenzung, die der Autor in seinen Filmanalysen den popkulturellen Inszenierungen der Polizei abliest. So macht das Buch Lust, alte Filmklassiker mit anderen Augen zu sehen.
