    "In the early twelfth century a Burgundian monk set out to tell the 500-year history of his monastery, embedded within a broader history of early medieval France. The Cartulary-Chronicle of St-Pierre of Bèze is both a history of the monastery and a collection of its 331 charters, from its seventh-century foundation until the middle of the twelfth century. Bèze was a Benedictine house whose history included at least six incidents of sacking and destruction--and according to its twelfth-century chronicler it always recovered and emerged stronger than ever. Combining the history of Burgundy and Francia with the history of his house, John, the chronicler, created a past for Bèze as he wanted it to be remembered. Based on John’s autograph manuscript, The Cartulary-Chronicle of St-Pierre of Bèze is published here in full for the first time. While the monks of Bèze have often been overshadowed by their more famous neighbors, the monks of Dijon, this edition recounts the history of one of the oldest houses in Burgundy and gives it its proper due."--

    In ihrer Dissertation vertritt die Verfasserin die Thesen, dass es sich bei den analysierten altenglischen Quellen nicht um wort-wörtliche „Übersetzungen“ der jeweiligen lateinischen Vorlagen handelt, sondern um „theologisierende Interpretationen“, dass es eine spezifisch „angelsächsische Theologie“ gegeben hat, die als solche auch erkennbar ist und der Benediktinischen Reform des 10. Jh. in England theologisch den Weg ebnete, und dass hauptsächlich (benediktinische) Theologen für das Zustandekommen der altenglischen Versionen verantwortlich waren, nicht König Alfred von Wessex (871-899) höchstselbst. In der deutschsprachigen theologischen Forschung fällt ein umfangreiches Textkorpus durch das interpretatorische Raster, weil das Erlernen der altenglischen Sprache (ca. 5.-11. Jh.) im Regelfall nicht zum wissenschaftlichen Rüstzeug von Theologinnen und Theologen gehört. Diese Dissertation über frühmittelalterliche Kirchengeschichte versteht sich insofern als Brückenschlag zwischen Theologie und anglistischer Mediävistik. Sie ermöglicht Forscherinnen und Forschern, die nicht über Kenntnisse der altenglischen Sprache verfügen, Zugang zu den so genannten Alfredischen Texten. Leitgedanke ist dabei, der vornehmlich linguistisch-literaturwissenschaftlich geführten Diskussion um die Verfasserfrage eine theologische Perspektive hinzufügen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen vier altenglische Versionen spätantiker Werke, die mit ihren jeweiligen lateinischen Vorlagen verglichen werden: Die Regula Pastoralis von Gregor dem Großen (RP) und ihre altenglische Version CP, Orosius’ Historiarum adversum Paganos Libri Septem (OH) und die altenglische Version Or., Boethius’ De Consolatione Philosophiae ( Consolatio ) und die altenglischen Versionen Bo. B (Prosaversion) und Bo. C (Prosimetron) sowie Augustins Soliloquia ( sol. ) und die altenglische Version Sol. Außerhalb der anglistischen Mediävistik werden die altenglischen Versionen – vornehmlich aufgrund der Sprachbarriere – entweder gänzlich übersehen oder zumeist noch für wort-wörtliche ...
