    Kultureller Kannibalismus – als Metapher für die Einverleibung undTransformation des Anderen – gilt insbesondere im Brasilien des 20.Jahrhunderts als poetologisches und kulturtheoretisches Paradigma.Die im Modernismus der 1920er Jahre proklamierte Bewegung derAnthropophagie zelebriert das Verschlingen europäischer Kulturformenals Medium des Widerstands sowie einer eigenen Identität.Der ›böse Wilde‹, der aufsässige Menschenfresser, wird zum Symbolfür Transkulturation schlechthin. Als Modell kultureller Aneignunghält die Anthropophagie unter dem Schlagwort eines ›kannibalischenÜbersetzens‹ Einzug in den translationswissenschaftlichen Diskurs.Die Fragen, denen die vorliegende Studie nachgeht, sind folgende: Inwiefernlässt sich das Lesen und Übersetzen des Anderen als Akt desVerschlingens denken? Steht die kannibalische Metaphorik aufgrundder ihr inhärenten Gewalt nicht stets im Zeichen des Verlusts – desEigenen wie des Fremden? Welche Möglichkeiten, aber auch welcheProbleme birgt der Begriff eines kannibalischen Übersetzens? Undlässt sich die Aporie, in die Kannibalismus letzten Endes mündet, mithilfeder Dimension des indigenen Denkens auflösen?

    Begreift man Oswald de Andrades »Anthropophagisches Manifest« (1928) nicht nur als literarisches Werk, sondern auch als Beitrag zur postkolonialen Theorie avant la lettre, so ergeben sich neue Perspektiven auf die brasilianische Kultur.Entlang postkolonialer Strategien kultureller Kannibalisierung zeichnet Peter W. Schulze bisher kaum beachtete Verbindungslinien zwischen dem Modernismo und dem Tropicalismo nach. Vor einem breiten kulturhistorischen Hintergrund stellen Detailanalysen tropikalistischer Werke deren Bedeutung für den Paradigmenwechsel vom antikolonialen zum postkolonialen Diskurs heraus.Ausgezeichnet mit dem Georg-Rudolf-Lind-Förderpreis für Lusitanistik Understanding Oswald de Andrade's Manifesto Antropofago (English title: Cannibal Manifesto, 1928) not only as an aesthetic production, but also as a postcolonial theory construction, opens up new perspectives on Brazilian culture, which - after extensive cultural and historical contextualization - render the manifesto fertile ground for an understanding of Tropicalismo. Peter W. Schulze's interdisciplinary investigation for the first time works out in detail the complex intramedial and intermedial references of the manifesto and follows the postcolonial dimensions of tropicalist movies. The study is thus to be understood as a contribution to postcolonial studies

    Understanding Oswald de Andrade's Manifesto Antropofago (English title: Cannibal Manifesto, 1928) not only as an aesthetic production, but also as a postcolonial theory construction, opens up new perspectives on Brazilian culture, which - after extensive cultural and historical contextualization - render the manifesto fertile ground for an understanding of Tropicalismo. Peter W. Schulze's interdisciplinary investigation for the first time works out in detail the complex intramedial and intermedial references of the manifesto and follows the postcolonial dimensions of tropicalist movies. The study is thus to be understood as a contribution to postcolonial studies. Peter W. Schulze (Dr. phil.) leitet das DFG-Forschungsprojekt »Glocalising Modes of Modernity: Transnational and Cross-Media Interconnections in Latin American Film Musicals« an der Hispanistik der Universität Bremen. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind (Post-)Kolonialismus, interamerikanische Globalisierungsprozesse, lateinamerikanische Literatur-, Medien- und Kulturgeschichte, Genretheorie, Medienästhetik und Intermedialität.

Long description: Versteht man Oswald de Andrades »Anthropophagisches Manifest« (1928) nicht nur als ästhetische Produktion, sondern auch als postkoloniale Theoriebildung, so eröffnen sich neue Perspektiven auf die brasilianische Kultur, die das Manifest nach eingehender kulturhistorischer Kontextualisierung fruchtbar machen für das Verständnis des Tropicalismo. Peter W. Schulzes interdisziplinäre Untersuchung arbeitet erstmals detailliert die vielschichtigen intra- und intermedialen Bezüge des Manifests sowie daran anknüpfender tropikalistischer Filme in ihren postkolonialen Dimensionen heraus. Die Studie versteht sich damit auch als Beitrag zu den Postcolonial Studies.
