    This edited collection brings together new research on public service interpreting and translation (PSIT) with a focus on ideology, ethics and policy development. The contributions provide fresh theoretical and empirical perspectives on the inconsistencies in translation and interpreting provision observed in different geonational contexts and the often-reported tensions between prescribed approaches to ethics and practitioner experience. The discussions are set against the backdrop of developments in rights-based discourses on language support services and the professionalisation of the field, drawing attention to how stakeholders and interpreting practitioners navigate the realities of service in the context of shifting ideological landscapes. Particular innovations in the collection include theorisations about policy and practice that draw on political science, applied ethics and paradigms of trauma-informed care. The volume also presents research on settings that have received limited attention to date such as prison and charitable services for survivors of violence and trauma

    Mit dem im Jahr 2005 abgeschlossenen Tarifvertrag (TVöD) findet die ,leise Revolution' im öffentlichen Dienst Deutschlands ihren vorläufigen Abschluss. Die seit den 70er Jahren in verschiedenen Reformvorhaben angeregte Umsetzung des Leistungsprinzips in Form leistungsbezogener Vergütungsbestandteile wird nun praktisch implementiert. An die Einführung leistungsbezogener Entgelte im öffentlichen Dienst sind hohe Erwartungen geknüpft: Vorrangig eine höhere Leistungsbereitschaft (Motivation) der Mitarbeiter und in Folge eine Verbesserung der Dienstleistungsqualität des öffentlichen Dienstes. Darüber hinaus ist eine Professionalisierung des Personalmanagements öffentlicher Organisationen zu erwarten. Vor diesem Hintergrund arbeitet die vorliegende Studie theoretisch und empirisch Funktionen und Folgen leistungsorientierter Entgelte auf. Ausgehend von einer personalwirtschaftlichen Diskussion der Reform(-bemühungen) des öffentlichen Dienstes in Deutschland und einer umfassenden Zusammenschau von Instrumenten der Personalbeurteilung werden theoretisch die Bedingungen des gewünschten Engagements der MitarbeiterInnen in öffentlichen Organisationen diskutiert. In Analogie zum Leitbild des ,engagierten Mitarbeiters' im ,Neuen Steuerungsmodell' (KGSt) werden die arbeitnehmerseitig fokussierten Verhaltensannahmen im Konstrukt des ,Organizational Citizenship Behavior' (OCB) zusammengefasst. Als zentrale Voraussetzung des OCB – im Verständnis eines organisationsdienlichen Extra-Rollen-Verhaltens – wird für die Wirksamkeit leistungsorientierter Entgelte die wahrgenommene Gerechtigkeit des (neuen) Prozedere der Leistungsbeurteilung seitens der Betroffenen thematisiert. Leitannahme der Studie ist, dass organisationale Gerechtigkeit das Extra-Rollen-Verhalten von MitarbeiterInnen positiv beeinflusst. Diese Leitannahme, dass Gerechtigkeit in materieller, instrumenteller und interaktiver Dimension – beispielsweise bei der kommunikativen Vermittlung der Ergebnisse durch die Vorgesetzten (Führungskräften) – Voraussetzung des wünschenswerten Engagements ist, ist Grundlage der vorliegenden empirischen Studie. Das qualitative Datenmaterial der Arbeit basiert auf Interviews mit Betriebsleitern und -leiterinnen, Beurteilern und Beurteilten aus kommunalen Betrieben, die im Rahmen eines dreijährigen Begleitforschungsprojektes zur Einführung von Leistungsentgelten im öffentlichen Dienst durchgeführt wurden.
